  • acceptable image quality on the edge of full frame,

Cons:

  • slight problems with spherical aberration,

Venus Optics Laowa 200mm f/2.0 First Look

Yesterday, we released the first images of the Venus Optics Laowa 200mm f/2.0, and today, someone posted a video on weibo carrying the lens around. This looks like it will be a great lens for every mount.

  • Full-frame autofocus lens
  • Weight: around 1,6 kg
  • Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon EF first, and later Fuji X + GFX mount
  • It looks like there is a focus limiter switch and IS switch on the barrel, along with some customizable buttons in the latest images.

Venus Optics Laowa 200mm f/2.0 Leaked

Chinese social media weibo is blowing up with a new lens they found from what is believed to be Venus Optics Laowa, based on the identifying markings. There are a few shots of this lens, and it will initially be released for Canon, Sony, and Nikon mounts, but it will later come to Fujifilm X and GF mounts, according to multiple leakers on Chinese social media. The lens will also weigh 1600g.

The Chinese-made AF200mm F2.0 full-frame autofocus lens is about to be released. It features a full-frame, 200mm air cutter, a maximum aperture of F2.0, and weighs less than 1.6kg. It’s compatible with Canon EF SLR mounts, Sony E mounts, and Nikon Z mounts. Fujifilm X mounts will also be released later, with a full-frame equivalent of 300mm angle of view, as well as Fujifilm GFX mounts. Finally, a Chinese brand is releasing a GFX autofocus lens?

According to Mr. Ma, three Chinese brands are developing GFX-mount autofocus lenses. Let’s see who’s going to release it first. – weibo

Another

A domestically produced “air-cutting” automatic lens is coming soon. Just got the news: a domestic brand plans to release a 200mm F2 lens in the near future. It will have autofocus, EF, E, and Z mounts, and may later add Fuji G and X mounts. It will weigh less than 1600g. Are you excited? And guess who it is [Laughing]? – weibo

One More

I stumbled upon a profile image of a new lens from a Chinese brand. Zooming in and brightening it up, I can see it’s a 200mm f/2.0. According to a source, the initial release will include autofocus versions for Nikon Z, Sony E, and Canon EF mounts, weighing no more than 1600 grams!
They may also add Fuji G and X mounts in the future, allowing for an image field that covers medium format. – weibo

If this lens does come to GFX, it will certainly be a hot commodity, providing great reach and ultra-thin depth of field.
