Kamlan 28mm f/1.4 Coming to Kickstarter and Future Roadmap

Sainsonic is launching a new lens on Kickstarter the Kamlan 28mm f/1.4, but they also have a roadmap for some future lenses of interest in addition to their already broad range of Kamlan and Zonlai lenses that are available.

Q2 2018
21mm f1.8 APS-C

Q3
50mm f1.1 Mark2

Q4
32mm f1.3 APS-C
15mm f1.8 APS-C

These are some interesting focal lengths and apertures, to say the least, but Machang Optics lenses are relatively affordable so they are a good option for experimentation. Also, cheap Chinese lenses have gotten a lot better in recent years so there is no longer a reason to steer clear of them unless you’re obsessed with perfection.

Sony a7RIII vs. Nikon D850 Underwater Comparison

Nikon Rumors has a lengthy guest post comparing the Nikon D850 vs Sony a7RIII for underwater use and it is very thorough. The Nikon D850 is a huge step up over past Nikon cameras for video and it shows in the above video. I personally prefer the Sony a7RIII and have used both cameras, but they do a very good job of demonstrating the pros and cons of each camera so it’s definitely worth a watch if you’re into underwater photography and cinematography.

DJI Ronin-S Single Handed Stabilizer

The DJI Ronin-S single handed stabilizer is the perfect size and weight for Sony cameras if you are in the market. It’s already been delayed a few times, but it might actually ship soon from your favorite retailer B&H Photo. The Ronin-S is ideal for the Sony a7 series of cameras with G-Master glass and has a motor twice as strong as the DJI Ronin-M. It is also highly programmable so it’s great for one man shoots.

Sony Releases 0.5-type OLED Microdisplay with Top-of-Class UXGA Resolution, Featuring the World’s Smallest Pixel Pitch of 6.3µm

Sony Corporation
Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation

Tokyo, Japan—Sony Corporation today announced the upcoming release of the ECX339A OLED Microdisplay featuring UXGA (1600 x 1200 resolution), the highest in class for a 0.5-type. This product achieves the world’s smallest pixel pitch of 6.3μm by leveraging Sony’s OLED display technology and miniaturization technology, enabling a resolution 1.6x higher than the previous model*1. By employing a new drive circuit design that operates on half the voltage of the previous model*1, the new product achieves the same level of low-power operation as its predecessor but with much higher resolution. When paired with Sony’s original driving system*2, a frame rate up to 240 fps is supported—double that of previous product*1.

Enhancing the resolution on microdisplays has traditionally presented problems such as deteriorating image quality due to decreased pixel pitch and inferior viewing angle properties. The new product features optimized transistors layout and process to address uneven characteristics and loss of withstand voltage, the issues associated with transistor miniaturization. The Sony original variation compensation circuit also enhances picture quality. Additionally, the color filter is deposited directly on the silicon substrate, reducing its distance from the light emitting layer, and the filter’s color array has been modified. This helps to secure the viewing angle properties while achieving high resolution. Read More »

Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE Bug Found

that1cameraguy experienced a bug with his Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE on the Sony a7III, which will hopefully be fixed in the very near future. He was trying to focus on a lightbulb and the lens was unable to obtain focus, so he tried adjusting a few settings, but the only thing that fixed the issue was powering the camera off/on. Not exactly a huge issue and it might only occur on the Sony a7III, so make sure to test your lens before relying on it for something like a wedding to make sure the same bug doesn’t occur with your camera.

To be clear that1cameraguy says he loves the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE, but he wanted to make photographers aware of this bug. This issue isn’t meant to dissuade anyone from purchasing the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE, because it is a minor issue that can be corrected via a firmware update later.
