Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III: Amazon

  • Replacement for the already discontinued/old version Speedmaster lens
  • Improved image quality with improved optical performance
  • Minimum focusing distance: 0.5m (o.65m for the EF version)
  • Manual focusing
  • Available for Sony E, Canon RF, Canon EF and Nikon Z mounts
  • Scheduled to be released in April 2019 (June 2019 for the Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 C EF-mount version)
  • Price: ¥98,000 excluding tax or around $900
  • The Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 III lens will be on display at the CP + 2019

7Artisans 60mm f/2.8: Amazon

  • Manual focus lens
  • Aperture f/2.8 – f/16
  • Minimum focusing distance: 65mm
  • Scheduled to be released in May 2019
  • Manufacturer’s preferred price: ¥ 25,000 (excluding tax) or around $200
  • Designed for APS – C size mirrorless cameras
  • Ultra close-up shooting up to 5 times magnification is possible by installing an optional extension tube
  • The new lens will be on display at the 2019 CP+ show

DCWatch Sony a6400 Interview

DC.Watch sat down with Sony about the new a6400. Below are excerpts from the interview:

  • Sony used the same mount for APS-C and Full Frame so that people could pick the right body for the job with any of their lenses.
  • Using the same mount also lets you upgrade easily
  • a6400 uses the same BIONZ X in the a9
  • The FE 24 mm F1.4 GM was designed to go well with APS-C and Full Frame bodies
  • The a6400 replaces the a6300 not the a6500 since it has IBIS
  • No comment about the replacement for the a6500 but it will exceed expectations
  • Most APS-C camera demand is for the high end
  • a6400 is about superior AF performance
  • The Sony a9 firmware update is coming in March and α7R III/α7 III will be in April
  • Sony can now use the image processing engine better in the Sony a9 which is why the improvement is coming
  • Sony focuses on the needs of everyone and not just professionals when designing cameras
  • Sony is trying to streamline there update and release schedule
  • The Sony a7III is selling well and it’s based on the advancements with the a9
  • The entire market is shrinking, but mirrorless continues doing well
  • Sounds like they want better battery performance across their line up
  • No data to release publicly about Imaging Edge software since its release
  • Since the a9 Sony professional services have grown
  • Sounds like their marketing is going to shift towards one mount for all when releasing and marketing new APS-C and Full Frame cameras

Samyang shared an aggressive plan to launch 8 lenses on their social media today.

(4) = Sony E version of Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 EF
