New Sony E-Mount and Cybershot Cameras Coming

Nokishita updated their list of Sony products to expect and they think Sony will announce 2-3 E-mount cameras along with a cyber shot and the Full Frame Sony 35mm f/1.8 in 2019.

June 27

  • Sony announces “SEL35F18F” soon
  • Currently, Sony has created a new product page for six lens interchangeable cameras (two of which are probably accessories pages) and one cyber shot
    • It is important to note that there are many cases where the existing product page is simply renewed by adding new firmware functions. New products will be released within about half a year.
    • Currently, the certification body can confirm two models, “WW716189” and “WW246025”

DPReview: Sony a9 Score Revised, Becoming The Top Camera In Its Class

The Sony a9 was already a match for the Canon 1DX Mark II and Nikon D5 according to DPReviews previous score and many owners, but now it is even better thanks to the addition of ‘real-time tracking’, which pushes the a9 above the competition. This is the first time Sony has added a major feature using a firmware update, which is something Fujifilm has been doing for years. Some were surprised by the update 2 years after launch since Sony wasn’t known for adding features after releasing to there cameras, lets, hope this is the new normal from Sony.

This isn’t the first time that DPReview has revised their Sony a9 content and it speaks to the amount of attention the camera gets from reviewers and photographers alike even 2 years after it’s launch. Here are some of their reasons for updating the camera’s score.

“The increased score reflects the precision of the updated a9’s subject tracking system, as well as its ease-of-use that makes it valuable for nearly all types of photography. ”

“‘Real-time tracking’ refers to the ability of the a9 (and a6400) to understand the subject you initiated focus on, and track it in three dimensions, much like 3D Tracking on Nikon DSLRs, and the respective subject tracking modes on various mirrorless cameras. What sets the a9’s system apart are both its performance (we found it to reliable enough to be useful for portrait, event, candid, sports and even landscape photography), and its ease-of-use.”

“It’s robust enough that it will even, again reliably, switch in and out of Eye AF as necessary if a face or eye is detected on the subject you are tracking, as you can see in the video above.* Collectively, this means you can concentrate on the composition and the moment. There is no longer a need to focus (pun intended) on keeping your AF point over your subject, which for years has constrained composition and made it difficult to maintain focus on erratic subjects.

In practice, the system excels. While many professional sports photographers that know their sport, and can anticipate the action, have successfully used Single Point or Zone AF for years, real-time tracking can help both the amateur and the pro achieve potentially better results. First, it frees up the photographer to compose freely, as composition is no longer constrained by having to keep an AF point over the subject. But perhaps more importantly, not having to keep a fixed AF point or zone over a fast moving subject is a boon when it comes to fast, erratic subjects shot using long telephoto lenses, where framing is increasingly difficult.”

You can read about the full update here and see samples, but with the Sony a9II expected to be announced soon, Canon and Nikon should be worried. Cameras like the Sony a9 make shooting stupid easy to get right and show us what the future of “professional” photography will look like.

Sony Added New Starvis Sensors For Security Cameras to Lineup

Not very exciting, but Sony added two new 4k Starvis sensors to their 4k line up the IMX485LQJ and IMX415-AAQR. Chips with Starvis technology have been miss labeled in the past, but this is unlikely in this instance due to the sensor size. You can read more about Sony’s new chips here.

Sony Will Challenge Canon and Nikon at The 2020 Tokyo Olympics

Sankeibiz is reporting that Sony will challenge Canon and Nikon at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and it calling them the Zebra of the typical Canon/Nikon Black and White battle for sports supremacy.

“the competition for the share of the news camera, which attracts attention each time the Olympics, is gradually rising. From the color of the exterior of the telephoto lens to the battle of the two big-headed Canon / Nikon, also known as the “black and white confrontation”, this time a mirrorless one eye male Sony who splits the telephoto lens with black and white “Zebra” color into it The trend here also keeps an eye on it.”

While Sony’s presence at the 2020 Olympics will be a disrupter I think it might have been a good idea for Sony to make their lenses look a little more unique. The casual observer will likely see more Canon lenses than anything else. The Olympics could be a turning point for Sony the way it was for Canon.

“It is the Canon of “white” and Nikon of “black” that divides the cameraman’s seat of the Olympics. The history of “Black and White Showdown” is old, and late-on Canon shows its way into the 1980s, while Nikon, who has taken the seat of the camera in the 1950s Tokyo Olympics Erode. Although the two companies’ shares have reached antagonism, the decisive change occurred at the Athens Olympics where the use of digital single-lens reflex cameras in 2004 began in earnest. Canon overwhelmed Nikon with the introduction of digital single-lens reflex camera “EOS-1D Mark II”. Since then, Nikon has been reviving, but according to industry officials, Canon is leading with the latest share of around 6 to 4 to 7 to 3.

Sony is trying to enter this fierce battle. Among the mirrorless machines that do not have a reflector in the camera body of the digital single-lens camera, Sony is ahead in the “full-size machine” equipped with a large image sensor. The high-quality, full-size mirrorless single-lenser is said to be one of the few growth stocks in the downturn digital camera market due to the spread of smartphone cameras. If you can sell a large weapon and show a sense of presence at the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics next year, you can look forward to the “Shimokatsu” that Canon once realized with digital single-lens reflex cameras.”

Sony has been dominating lately thought and their latest long glass announcement has silenced even the most ridiculous of critics and there is a good chance that Sony a9 or even Sony a9II owners will capture the best images from the 2020 Olympics.
