The Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE will start shipping in about 3 weeks and the hands-on videos keep coming. So far no one has said anything of concern about the upcoming 17-28mm, but it seems reviews have a variety of restrictions. Some of the first sample images became available last week, but many reviewers are still being asked not to share sample photo impressions yet.
I placed my preorder shortly after the announcement and hope to have one in hand in time to shoot some Astro at the end of the month, but Tamron’s availability hasn’t been great for E-Mount glass.

Sony Semiconductor Solutions Acquires Network Virtualization Technology Developer Mido Holdings Ltd.Tokyo, Japan—Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation today announced that it has acquired the network virtualization technology developer Mido Holdings Ltd. by signing a share transfer agreement with the shareholders of Mido Holdings and completing the transfer of shares. Consequently, Mido Holdings has become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Semiconductor Solutions.
Virtualization technologies include virtual network technology, which uses software to reconfigure networks without altering the physical infrastructure of communication devices such as routers and switches, and technologies that virtually integrate and control multiple servers and storage devices. These technologies are used to build cloud computing systems and other such highly flexible systems.
The acquisition of Mido Holdings will enable Sony Semiconductor Solutions to utilize Mido Holdings’s virtualization technologies together with its image sensor technology, making it possible to configure a virtual environment that integrates multiple edge devices equipped with image sensors. This, in turn, will allow the company to provide a new edge computing environment that can be linked with cloud systems.
This acquisition will have only a minor impact on Sony Corporation’s consolidated financial results for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2020.

The new Yongnuo YN200 will be announced soon and it looks exactly like the Godox AD200, which is kind of funny since Godox has been accused of copying the Profoto A1 design with their Godox V1. Photographers should save some money with the Yongnuo YN200, but not like the difference between Godox and Profoto. The Yongnuo YN200 is expected to be about 200 Watts and it should be triggered by the YN560-TX PRO.

Tamron is sending their Tamron 17-28mm Di III RXD FE to reviewers and so far opinions have been universally positive like for the Tamron 28-75mm Di III RXD FE. Tamron’s light high-quality designs have been very attractive and it looks like the Tamron 17-28mm Di III RXD FE is going to be difficult to get for months like the 28-75mm.
Since Tamron is having trouble keeping up with demand there has been speculation online that the lens will go up by $100 like the 28-75mm did, which could happen, but I think it will depend more on long term availability. 17-28mm preorders could be beyond expectations simply because of how poorly the 28-75mm launch was handled. I do not think Tamron will raise the 17-28mm price if we see high availability in 2-3 months, but if it goes longer like the 28-75mm did than I think a price increase will become inevitable.

Tamron put out a press release about Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE shortages due to the surprisingly high level of demand. I don’t think they should be all that surprised since the 28-75mm sold well enough to justify a price increase.
