Viltrox 24mm f/1.8, 35mm f/1.8, and 50mm f/1.8 Full Frame Lenses Finally Available

The Viltrox 24mm f/1.8, 35mm f/1.8, and 50mm f/1.8 were announced in December of last year, but they have only recently become available via B&H Photo. It is kind of surprising that the 35mm is still only for preorder. These three lenses should be of excellent value and they are probably in limited stock due to supply the supply chain shortage so grab them while you can.

FY2021 Q2 Sony Financial Results

Global supply chain shortages seem to have ground Sony to a halt with the financial results reflecting very little beyond expectations of focasted sales being lower due to shortages.

Electronics Products & Solutions (EP&S)
Sales are expected to be lower than the August forecast due to an expected decrease in unit sales mainly of digital cameras, primarily due to shortages in the supply of components, especially semiconductors. Operating income is expected to be higher than the August forecast due to the impact of an improvement in the product mix of digital cameras, an increase in unit sales of televisions and a decrease in operating expenses, partially offset by the impact of lower unit sales of digital cameras.

Imaging & Sensing Solutions (I&SS)
Sales are expected to remain unchanged from the August forecast due to higher-than-expected sales of image sensors for digital cameras and for industrial equipment, substantially offset by lower-than-expected sales in businesses other than image sensors. Operating income is expected to be higher than the August forecast primarily due to the impact of the above-mentioned expected increase in sales of image sensors for digital cameras and for industrial equipment.

Sony A1 vs Nikon Z9 By The Specs

Nikon really knocked it out of the park with the Nikon Z1 and they needed to impress to remain relevant, but will it be enough? I haven’t considered a Nikon camera in a long time, but with the Nikon Z9 being almost $1,000 cheaper than the Sony A1 it is hard to ignore. The two cameras are very similar, but each has its unique advantages.

In fact, the Nikon Z9 is so competitive with the A1 I wouldn’t be surprised to see Sony match the price of the Nikon Z9 or even beat the price substantially since the Sony A1 has been on the market for a while. We probably won’t see them do this until the A1 becomes more freely available, but it wouldn’t shock me. At the very least the Nikon Z9 should take some attention away from Canon.
