DPR: Sony a7RV Review – An Already Great Camera Gets Better

By Louis Ferreira | Published: February 1, 2023

DPR published its full Sony a7RV review, which you can check out here. DPRTV also published there’s, which is here. Both reviews are obviously very positive, as you can see from the gold award above and excerpts below. You really can’t go wrong with a Sony R camera today.

ProsCons
  • Impressive levels of detail
  • Extremely good dynamic range
  • Powerful AF system to support high resolution
  • Extensive video options with good support tools
  • Tilt + articulate screen brings significant flexibility
  • Well-placed dials and control points
  • Interface allows simple stills/video/stills switches
  • Extensive customization
  • Excellent battery life
  • Wi-Fi works well
  • Motion correction option makes pixel-shift mode vastly more usable
  • Added detail capture (inevitably) reduces as light levels fall
  • Crops and significant rolling shutter limit many video modes
  • Extent of customization options is dizzying
  • Autofocus capabilities bring significant complexity to achieve very best results
  • New status screen displays easy to navigate away from or minimize, inadvertently
  • Pixel-shift images need to be combined in desktop software

By Louis Ferreira | Published: February 1, 2023

The Tokina SZ 300mm PRO Reflex F7.1 MF CF / SZ 600mm PRO Reflex F8 MF CF / SZ 900mm PRO Reflex F11 MF CF that was first announced here are now available to order. These compact mirror lenses provide excellent weight, size, and value for the money, with the only real downside of the design being the donut bokeh that some might find offensive.
