First Lok: Sony a7RIII

Pretty much everything about the Sony a7RIII has been covered by now, but Lok does point out something unique and useful. The Sony a7RIII turns off the EVF eye detection when the articulating LCD screen is raised off the camera, which will be incredibly useful for those that use the camera in tight spaces. While I haven’t been frustrated by the feature on past cameras I know photographers and videographers that have and this is just a smart addition to what looks like an already great camera.

Sony a7RIII: Has the Sony a7RIII Become A True Professional Option?

The Sony a7RIII has grown up a lot over the Sony a7RII and the first photographers to receive them are mainly pointing out the differences between the original and new camera. Sony did a good job of listening to the needs of professionals, but I really wonder if some of the things that were addressed could have been fixed via firmware update. Of course, issues like battery life required a hardware revision, but if Sony waits another 3 years to refresh the Sony a7R then they might find themselves quite a bit behind other camera manufactures by then.

The Nikon D850 is very close to the Sony a7RIII and Nikon could refresh the camera quickly or even improve it via a firmware update. Plus Fujifilm, Panasonic, and Olympus are all doing very interesting things with their camera lineups this generation and Canon could always shock us. Hopefully, Sony continues improving this generation of cameras via firmware updates like other brands have. So far Sony seems to be listing to what professional want.

Tokina FiRIN Lenses Road Map – Old News Becomes New?

It’s a slow day and I missed this the first time around so I figured I would cover Tokina’s lens roadmap since others have reported the news too me. Photorumors reported that Tokina will release:

  • Super wide prime AF lens
  • Fast wide prime AF lens
  • Standard zoom

OVER ONE YEAR AGO…

I know others have reported this as new, but I have been patiently searching for something truly new to share with readers today with no luck and since I haven’t covered it here yet it’s new to readers, but not really new overall. Of course, the Tokina FiRIN 20mm f/2 F is already available B&H Photo/Adorama.
