Additional Tamron FE Teaser Confirms October Launch

It looks like we will not be waiting long for Tamron to release their telephoto lens for Sony E-Mount cameras. Some theories have the telephoto zoom on the short side to maintain a compact design, while others thing Tamron will go beyond 200mm.

Either way, an affordable constant aperture f/2.8 telephoto zoom will be appreciated by many Sony photographers, especially if it lives up to the 17-28mm f/2.8 and 28-75mm f/2.8. We originally found out about the upcoming lenses here.

NEW Profoto C1+ and Profoto B2 Location Kit is 50+% Off

The Profoto B2 Location Kit has been substantially discounted and it’s probably to bring the kit inline with their Profoto C1+ announcement, which is being advertised as for smartphones but works with the Profoto Air Remote. I think they are worried that photographers will load up the new Profoto C1+  lights instead of buying the B2 since they work with the AirTTL Remote. It will be interesting to see if the C1+ becomes popular with photographers.

The Profoto C1 Plus is compatible with light-shaping tools such as color gels, grids, and domes, which provide a wide range of creative possibilities. The light-shaping tools snap on and off quickly with the C1 Plus’ magnetic mount. Use it hand-held to easily play around and explore different angles by simply moving the C1 Plus around or put it on a stand or arm with the built-in thread mount. You can even use several lights together. Since C1 Plus is also compatible with Profoto AirTTL Remotes, you can bring it along if shooting with a classic camera.

Star Eater is Back! In Sony’s New a7RIV…

https://www.instagram.com/p/BxFitmtnLJq/

Jim Kassen is currently testing the Sony a7RIV and he has discovered that the new a7RIV eats stars just like other Sony cameras. I was considering getting the a7RIV if Sony finally fixed Star Eater, but since they have not I will stick with my a7RIII. Actually they made it worse than it was before because Star Eater starts at 3.2 Seconds now instead of 4!

I’m not going to bury the lede here: ths Sony a7RIV eats stars just about like the a7RIII does.

This is about what we saw with the a7RIII, except that the new behavior starts at 3.2 seconds instead of 4 seconds.

Ugh. My position is that this kind of filtering should be done in postproduction.

You can read more about Jim’s testing here. I wish more photographers would confront Sony about this issue because Sony is the worst offender on the mark. Noise reduction should always be performed in post if it negatively impacts the image, which Star Eater does.
