overview

  • [Publication number] P2025100076
  • [Release date] 2025-07-03
  • [Name of invention] Zoom lens and imaging device
  • [Application date] 2023-12-22
  • [Applicant]
    [Identification number] 000133227
[Name or company name] Tamron Co., Ltd.
  • A zoom lens and an imaging device are provided that achieve both high optical performance and compact product size.
  • [Background Art]
    [0002]
In imaging devices using solid-state imaging elements, such as digital cameras and video cameras, the number of pixels of solid-state imaging elements has been increasing in recent years, and as a result, lens systems are being required to have even higher performance than before. In addition, as cameras become more compact, there is also an increasing demand for smaller optical systems.
  • [0003]
Under these circumstances, zoom lens inventions have been disclosed in, for example, Patent Documents 1 to 3. Patent Document 1 discloses a zoom lens, which is a so-called standard zoom for single-lens reflex cameras.
  • [0006]
In the zoom lens disclosed in Patent Document 3, the lens group positioned third from the object side during magnification change is a demagnification lens, the refractive power is weak, and the movement distance of each lens group is large. For this reason, it is difficult to miniaturize the product of the zoom lens described in Patent Document 3.
  • [0007]
Therefore, an object of the present invention is to provide a zoom lens and an imaging device that achieve both high optical performance and compactness of the product, even in a zoom lens with a magnification ratio exceeding 10 times.

Sigma 8mm f/1.0 and Sigma 15mm f/1.2 Patents Found

A Patent was filed for a Sigma 8mm f/1.0 and a Sigma 15mm f/1.2. The Sigma 15mm f/1.2 is full frame, while the Sigma 8mm f/1.0 is either m43 or APS-C.  These lenses probably won’t come out anytime soon, but you can see renderings of them above or read the patent below:

overview

  • [Publication number] P2025099854
  • [Release date] 2025-07-03
  • [Name of invention] Large aperture ratio ultra-wide-angle lens
  • [Application date] 2023-12-22
  • [Applicant]
    [Identification number] 000131326
[Name or company name] Sigma Corporation
  • To provide a large aperture ratio ultra-wide angle lens that is compact and lightweight, has a half angle of view of 80 degrees or more, is bright with an F-number of approximately 1.8 or less, and has good optical performance from the center to the periphery of the screen while ensuring a sufficient image circle.
  • [Background Art]
    [0002]
In recent years, as digital cameras and video cameras have become mirrorless, and as smart phones and mobile data terminals have become equipped with high-performance cameras, digital cameras equipped with large sensors of 35 mm full-size format or larger have become mainstream in order to differentiate themselves from these mobile devices. Similarly, in the photographic optical systems used in imaging devices, there is an increasing demand for ultra-wide-angle lenses with bright F-values and large aperture ratios in order to differentiate them from smartphones and other devices.
  • [0004]
Patent Documents 1 and 2 describe examples of large aperture ratio ultra-wide-angle lenses having a maximum angle of view of approximately 160 degrees or more and an F-number of approximately 1.8 or less.
  • [0006]
Ultra-wide-angle lenses with a maximum angle of view of approximately 160 degrees or more often have a retrofocus type lens configuration, and often have a configuration in which a concave meniscus lens with a convex surface facing the object side is arranged closest to the object side. In such optical systems, the concave meniscus lens arranged closest to the object side often has a large thickness ratio and a concave surface that is close to a hemisphere, and may account for more than 50% of the total lens weight of the entire optical system. If the F-number is reduced, the lens diameter becomes large, and the weight of the optical system increases rapidly. When attempting to achieve a large aperture ratio, it is important to achieve high performance while preventing the lens from becoming too large.
  • [0007]
Patent Document 1 includes an example of a bright, large aperture ratio super wide-angle lens with a maximum angle of view of 160 degrees or more and an F-number of 1.6 or less. The large aperture ratio super wide-angle lens described in Patent Document 1 has high optical performance, but has a small image circle, and is an extremely large optical system in terms of the size of the optical system relative to the image circle, which poses a problem in terms of miniaturization.
  • [0009]
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above-mentioned problems, and aims to provide a large aperture ratio ultra-wide-angle lens which is compact and lightweight, has a half angle of view of 80 degrees or more, is bright with an F-number of approximately 1.8 or less, and has good optical performance from the center to the periphery of the screen while ensuring a sufficient image circle.
  • [Effects of the Invention]
    [0011]
According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a large aperture ratio ultra-wide angle lens that is compact and lightweight, has a half angle of view of 80 degrees or more, is bright with an F-number of approximately 1.8 or less, and has good optical performance from the center to the periphery while ensuring a sufficient image circle.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 8.15
  • F-number: 1.26
  • Angle of view: 185.73
  • Image height: 11.94
  • Total length: 133.27

Example 2

  • Focal length: 8.15
  • F-number: 1.03
  • Angle of view: 185.73
  • Image height: 11.93
  • Total length: 149.99

Example 3

  • Focal length: 15.50
  • F-number: 1.46

  • Image height: 22.39
  • Total length: 168.50

Example 6

  • Focal length: 15.29
  • F-number: 1.26
  • Angle of view: 185.73

Adorama Introduced Price Increases First!

I have been watching for the price increase we reported yesterday since midnight, and B&H Photo / Amazon haven’t posted the price increases yet, but Adorama implemented Sony’s price increases promptly. The only reason I can give for this disparity is that maybe B&H Photo and Amazon have some pre-tariff inventory left to sell, so don’t miss out.
