Lenstips reviewed the Viltrox AF 85 mm f/2 EVO, which you can read in full here, and it sounds like another great value lens with an exceptional price/quality and price/performance ratio that makes it a good purchase. If you don’t have the time to read the review than the pros/cons are below:

Pros:

  • solid casing, mostly made of metal,
  • excellent image resolution in the frame centre,
  • very good image resolution on the edge of the APS-C sensor,
  • good resolution on the edge of full frame,
  • slight longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • moderate distortion,
  • low astigmatism,
  • slight vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
  • silent and accurate autofocus,
  • nice out-of-focus areas,
  • 5-year warranty period,
  • very favourable price/quality and price/performance ratio.

Cons:

  • high vignetting on full frame,
  • performance against bright light leaves a lot to be desired,
  • distinct focus breathing.

7Artisan is Teasing a New Lightweight Lens Coming January 27th

7Artisan is teasing a new lightweight lens that is about 90g, which they plan to announce on January 27th. It looks a lot like the 7Artisans AF 40mm f/2.5. It measures H45mm × L 62mm, and we first covered it at the NAB Show. The silhouette looks the same, but the lens had a hood on it at NAB.

Sony CP+ 2026 Website Launched

Sony launched its CP+ 2026 website, and, interestingly, the Sony a7SIII isn’t mentioned anywhere. It is increasingly likely that the Sony a7S line of cameras will be folded into the FX line. You can see for yourself here and below.
