Nikon Wants To Challenge The Sony a9

Nikon Rumors is reporting that Nikon has expressed interest in challenging the Sony a9 with a new mirrorless camera that is equivalent to the D5. This is likely why Sony will refresh the Sony a9 sooner rather than later with an even more impressive Sony a9II. I highly doubt that Nikon will manage to match the crazy performance of the Sony a9 since they haven’t managed to catch the a7 yet, but surprises do happen. It will be interesting to see if Canon follows soon with an announcement of their own.

The announcement of the Sony 600mm f/4 GM and 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 should have Nikon and Canon worried since they currently do not have a body that matches the Sony a9. Using a Sony a9 is unlike shooting any other camera with its completely black out free EVF and crazy sticky AF that can shoot at 20fps. The competition better look out now that Sony has some serious long glass coming otherwise Sony might end up becoming the new Canon in a similar fashion to how Canon beat out Nikon so many years ago.
