Size Comparison: Sony 600mm f/4 GM and 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 vs Nikon and Canon Telephoto Glass

Sony has been very focused on long telephoto glass since the launch of the Sony a9 and with the announcement of the Sony 600mm f/4 GM and 200-600mm f/5.6-6.3 it’s interesting to see how they stack up to Nikon, Canon, Sigma, and Tamron telephoto lenses. Interestingly the Sigma 60-600mm f/4.5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports and Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 seem to be the most compact, while the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 600mm f/4E FL ED VR is similar in size when mounted and the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM is a little larger mounted.

Also of note, the Sony lens is always the lightest even if by an insignificant amount, so once you include the weight of the Sony a9 you are saving a significant amount of weight. You can compare more lenses here.
