Sony a9 Capture One Tethering Guide

Sony put together a comprehensive Capture One tethering guide for the Sony a9. Below is a condensed version.

  1. Use a USB 2.0 cable with Micro B type connection
  2. In Capture One’s preferences in the Capture tab, make sure Sony is checked as a Provider.
  3. Start a Capture One Session File>New Session
  4. Choose a new location for your session
  5. The workflow is: Capture to the Capture Folder, Move selected images / picked images to the Selects folder, Process those Selects to the Output folder, Any discarded images go in the Trash folder
  6. In the Capture tool tab that comes up you can then select how you want your photos name.
  7. You can also add a location and presets in the capture tool tab before starting
  8. Capture One won’t read your lens before a capture is made
  9. If you want to use live view click the video camera button and to capture an image click the large gray button to the right of it to begin or us CMD-K (Mac) / CTRL-K (WIN).
  10. You can’t zoom in the application for focusing, but you can do it on camera and it will shot up in live view.

Kai Reviews The Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G

If you’re a wide angle fan the Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G is a great option and it’s almost half the weight of the competing Canon/Nikon lenses. Kai seems to really enjoy the 12-24mm, but he is having trouble with his Sony a9 over heating, which is unfortunate. The low distortion of the 12-24mm makes it a very useful lens and it will likely be the next Sony lens I decided to purchase myself. I love high-quality ultra wide zooms, especially when they are light weight.

PackRAW

The Sony a9 fills SD cards unbelievably fast and if you are running low on storage PackRAW might be a good way to reduce your storage needs. Storage has become unbelievably affordable in recent years, but the ability to fill several gigs of SD cards in one shoot has become a reality if you regularly over shoot.

FIRST LOK: Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G

Lok goes hands-on with the new Sony FE 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G and shows off their extreme close-up capabilities in addition to vlogs with them. These aren’t really great lenses for Lok, but you can see how they compare size wise and surprisingly they aren’t much heavier than the f/4 variety.

Sony a9: Sony SF-G Series vs Lexar 2000x

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MNcnni7om0

If you’re using a Sony a9 it’s crucial that you get the fastest memory cards available, but you can save a little money with the Lexar 2000X series of UHS-II cards. The almost imperceivable difference between the Sony SF-G and Lexar 2000X cards in the Sony a9 is quite impressive. It’s unfortunate that Micro is discontinuing their cards because some are an incredible value, hopefully, someone else buys the division. In the mean time if you want top performance and to save $25-$30 a card check out the Lexar 2000X series. The Sony a9 goes through memory cards like water and your bank account will appreciate the savings.
