CameraLabs: Sony E 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 Review

Cameralabs reviewed the Sony E 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 and seemed fairly impressed with Sony’s new APS-C lens. Maybe Sony will come through with their promises to not abandon APS-C after all. The new 18-135mm is pretty good for a kit lens, but I hope Sony develops a lens like excellent Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS for a future E-mount camera. The Sony 18-135mm almost pin sharp to the corners, which isn’t bad for the price, but Sony can still do better. You can read the Full Camera Labs Review here.

Sony a7RIII Weather Sealing vs Nikon D850

Image Resource devised a torture test for the Sony a7RIII, Nikon D850, Canon 5D Mark IV and Olympus OM-D EM1 that simulates a moderate downpour and while all the cameras survived the a7RIII didn’t perform optimally. The a7RIII had water in the battery compartment after the rain test and it started randomly firing in the off position after the mist test, but the camera returned to normal after being aired out you can read more about it in Image Resources writeup.

This is very bad news for photographers that like to shoot in the rain and I really would have like to have seen a GFX in the mix for this test, because as well as the competitors performed the Fujifilm GFX is probably right up there with the Olympus OMD. Well built mirrorless cameras should have an advantage at this kind of test and it also would have been nice to have a Sony a9 involved in this testing for good measure. Sony’s weather sealing has improved marginally over the years, but they still have a long way to go.
