Sony brought back their savings and trade-in/trade-up program after a short downtime. Surprisingly they decided to include the new Sony FE 12-24mm f/4 G, which is an excellent lens for fans of wide-angle photography. As of right now B&H Photo has the best savings, but be sure to check all the links as B&H Photo and Adorama switch up their packages to remain competitive when these events are happening.

Two Twenty Studios sent me the above video showing how the Sony a9 with FE 100-400mm and Sony a7RIII with FE 70-200mm performed shooting an NFL game and it’s a good look at the kind of performance you can expect from the combo. I am loving the Sony a7RIII AF-C performance and it’s more than enough for most, but the Sony a9 is clearly ahead in the above video, but maybe it’s lens related.
I am currently shooting with the FE 100-400mm with a 1.4x TC and it works flawlessly. I hope to see others shooting the launch Tuesday with Sony cameras and might Livestream some of it so be sure to follow the site and our social media for more details SonyAddict on Facebook. Also, follow me on Instagram and YouTube, because I might use one of their platforms to go live if I don’t use Facebook live.

The first time the Meike Pro Battery Grip for Sony a9 and Sony a7RIII was in stock it sold out very quickly from Amazon. Now that a few photographers are getting the grip in hand we are getting some feedback on the quality of this unit. Michael Schmidt seems impressed with the quality of the grip but does say it feels a little cheap compared to the OEM Sony Grip, but likes the feedback of the buttons better than the Sony Grip. The Meike Pro Battery Grip also adds remote and intervalometer features.

Sony released their 2017 Q3 results today and they verify what we reported a few days ago, the Sony image sensor business will experiance a due to iPhone. The annalist was spot on, but it wasn’t a difficult prediction to make with all of the reports about iPhone X sales slowing. The overall forecast for the imaging business remains unchanged though and Sony imaging is healthy. Here is one more quote from the financial report:
Semiconductors Sales are expected to be lower than the October forecast primarily due to an expected decrease in unit sales of image sensors for mobile products. Operating income is expected to be higher than the October forecast primarily due to higher-than-expected profits resulting from sales of assets and cost reductions, partially offset by the above-mentioned expected decrease in sales.
Let’s hope that Sony didn’t decide to change CEO’s on a high note just before some kind of tumble. They have been on a roll again with the Sony a9 and Sony a7RIII, which will get even better with the Sony a7SIII and a7III. Let’s hope Sony continues to take a bite out of Canon and Nikon this year.
