  1. Kind Reminder for Fujifilm X-Pro3 Users
For the sake of your camera, it would be better not to use Viltrox 23mm, 35mm, or 85mm X-mount lenses onto Fujifilm X-PRO3 model in case it will damage your camera. Due to structural conflict, they will scratch a little bit against each other.

Make The Sirui 50mm E-Mount f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X Wider and Reduce Its Minimal Focus Distance With These Adapters

Anamorphic lenses are very unique and until recently very expensive, but now that the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X is available everywhere (B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama) videographers are learning to push the lens even further than before. There are a few useful accessories that you can mount to the from 67mm filter thread that will make this lens more versatile.

The first adapters you can use on the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X is a 67mm front filter thread 0.7x adapter that turns the 50mm into a 35mm f/1.8 Anamorphic lens. These adapters aren’t easier to come by and the ones used below used to be available on (B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama) but are out of stock or discontinued, but Amazon has one used that might be the right size. Adorama also has a 0.8x available here and even a 0.6x adapter here, but there is no evidence about how they perform.

You can also reduce the minimum focus distance from 85cm by adding a diopter to the front element. You can find diopters at B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama and they will let you allow the Sirui 50mm f/1.8 Anamorphic 1.33X get almost macro like widescreen performance and there are a lot of affordable options.

Most of the experimentation has been done with full-frame cameras so far so the performance should be even better on APS-C cameras since that is what this lens is intended to be used on. I hope to pick one up soon for testing myself because I love the look of anamorphic and can’t wait to get one of these lenses myself.

Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2 ASPH Review

Lenstips reviewed the new Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f1.2 ASPH and as usually Voigtlander’s build quality is great, but the image is a little soft at f/1.2 and f/1.4 which limits the lenses ability to resolve. You can read the full review here or see the pros/cons below:

Pros:

  • solid, moderately big casing made of metal,
  • record-breaking resolution values in frame centre on stopping down,
  • sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,
  • slight longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • excellent distortion correction.

Cons:

  • weak image quality in the frame centre by f/1.2 and f/1.4,
  • resolution on the edge of full frame sensor leaves a lot to be desired,
  • huge vignetting on full frame,
  • noticeable coma.

TCSTV: Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 vs Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM

TCSTV compared the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 vs Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM and the Tamron came out on top. You can read a summary of the video below:

  • The Tamron is affordable
  • It is great for nature and a little action photography if it can keep up
  • The Sony 70-200mm f/2.8 GM is full-featured and great, but heavy as XXXX
  • The Sony ways twice what the Tamron does which makes you think the Sony will be better
  • Love the feel of the Tamron even though it is a little plasticy
  • Missing 20mm on the long end to make it smaller and lighter weight
  • Don’t miss the 20mm
  • AF performance is equal to Sony
  • Sony has OIS, but Tamron does not
  • Filming video is best with OIS
  • Teleconverter from Sony doesn’t work with Tamron, but there is space for a TC
  • 9 blade aperture for Tamron
  • 11 blade aperture for Sony
  • Bokeh is pretty equal for the two
  • Sony has better contrast shooting directly into the sun
  • The Tamron has a lock as its only function
  • Zoom and Focus ring are the opposite of Sony lenses
  • The Sony lens looks more professional and it is fully featured
  • If you like shooting with bigger gear then you will likely go with the Sony
  • Tamron had a great hit rate
  • Both have weather sealing
  • The Tamron has 1:2 Macro that the Sony can’t compete with
  • The close focus performance of the Tamron wakes it great for indoor photography
  • If you are using your camera more for cinema get the Sony otherwise get the Tamron
