CameraRanger 2 Adds Sony A1 Support

CamRanger 2 is adding support for the Sony A1

CamRanger 2 Firmware Upgrade
The CamRanger 2 can be updated from within the iOS or Android app. A user can check for an update within the app Settings in the System section.

The firmware can also be updated by downloading the latest firmware below and updating through the WebGUI.

  • Ensure the CamRanger 2 has plenty of battery life and/or is charging.
  • Download the latest firmware directly: CamRanger 2 Firmware Version 9. Do NOT open this file.
  • Connect a computer to the CamRanger 2 network (Ethernet preferred, but WiFi can be used).
  • Navigate to 192.168.82.1 in a web browser.
  • The default password is admin.
  • Select the System tab.
  • Click the Upgrade button to begin the firmware upgrade process.
  • Select the firmware file downloaded as described above.
  • If the process takes more than 5 minutes, reload the WebGUI.
  • Confirm the new firmware version number in the WebGUI system tab.

Firmware update 9 contains the following changes:

  • Sony A1 support
  • Fujifilm GFX 100s support
  • Canon PowerShot G7X III support

Sony A1 vs Canon R3 Camera Size Comparison

Canon announced the development of the Canon R3 the other day and it will feature Canon’s first stacked sensor and eye input AF, but it’s unlikely that this camera will catch the current king the Sony Alpha 1. Some DSLR photographers will love the big R3 body, but many in the mirrorless world have gotten used to Sony’s compact bodies which haven’t changed much in size since their introduction.
