New NiSi V7 Filter Holder System and True Color Filter Announced

NiSi announced its new V7 filter holder and it looks like a nice upgrade over the V6 edition that I used a while ago. NiSi has a very nice filter system and you can currently order the new V7 filter holder from B&H Photo or Amazon.

NiSi has released the brand new V7 100mm filter holder system, which  combines the advantages of V6 filter holder kit with new innovative features. These new improvements have been made based on the feedback and suggestions of many photographers.

Three upgrades

  • New True Color fidelity polarizer

NiSi jointly developed a new polarizing material with a Japanese company and applied it to the built-in polarizer of V7 for the first time. This removes the yellow tint of traditional polarizing materials and presents a more true color.

  • Patented fast-assembling design

Patented bayonet design, point-to-point installation, rapid installation and quick release.

  • Patented 2-in-1 lock design

This combines a pull rod with the locking screw for easy use and quick locking.

More details
The V7 filter holder system contains three adapter rings. It supports 3 square filters and 1 circular polarizer in any combination. A full frame camera with a 15mm ultra wide Angle lens can be rotated 360 degrees without vignetting.

Highlights
– 86mm True Color polarizer
– Patented 2-in-1 lock in front bracket
– Patented fast-assembly main dial design
– Allows the use of 3 square filters and a circular polarizer
– Includes 4 adapter rings and 1 CPL (PRO CPL, Landscape NC CPL or True Color CPL)
– Includes a soft pouch and lens cap
– No vignetting on ultra wide angle lenses up to 15mm on full frame cameras.

Sigma Anticipates Supply Chain Delays in 2022

CEO Kazuto Yamaki of Sigma gave us some insight into Sigma’s current shortages on Twitter when he replied to someone inquiring about lens availability in the UK. According to Yamaki Sigma has been trying to catch up with strong demand, but they anticipate running into supply chain issues going into 2022. This is surprising news because many companies have already been impacted by supply chain issues and it might be an indication that Sigma is publicly anticipating a worsening of shortages. I certainly hope that is not the case, but it does seem like things are getting worse instead of better.

Sigma still has quite a few deals running from the holidays so if they have what you want in stock now might be a good time to buy or risk having an unknown wait time.

DPRTV: What’s Coming in 2022? 100MP Full Frame? and Sony Cannibalism?

DRPTV has offered us a lot of entertainment this year, but they wrapped up 2021 with an interesting parody that you can see below along with predictions for 2022. If we weren’t in the middle of a supply chain crisis at the moment I would say the guys are probably spot on, but this crisis might just been what Canon/Nikon need to catch up to Sony.

100MP Full Frame
I think most photographers would love to have 100MP to work with, but I’m not sure Sony or Canon can produce a full-frame 100MP sensor at this time that won’t have noise or dynamic range shortcomings.

Electron Shutters Becoming More Common
Most companies would likely want to go electronic shutter in the future if they can because it would reduce the cost of designing/producing a camera and increase reliability which would reduce demand on repair centers.

Affordable Full Frame vs APS-C
The momentum away from APS-C and towards larger sensors like Full Frame has been persistent and this year could see additional pressure in that direction. It’s unlikely this will be the year where we see cheap full-frame replace APS-C due to supply chain shortages, but Canon, Sony, and Nikon will likely wait to abandon APS-C when they get around to producing larger than Full Frame cameras in the future.

End of DSLR
Most mirrorless shooters have called for the end of DSLR for a while and it’s probably right around the corner, the shortages could work for or against DSLR, because if DSLR production is not impacted then it could cause Canon/Nikon to double down while they can. On the other hand, if they start running out of parts for DSLR’s then Canon/Nikon could close lines and get ready for a faster ramp-up of mirrorless camera production so we will have to see how that goes.
