Smart Phones Will Take Superior Photos to ILC by 2024‽

By Louis Ferreira | Published: May 28, 2022

Sony recently made some interesting forward-looking statements about the smartphone market. It is their belief that by 2024 the image quality of a smartphone will exceed that of an interchangeable lens camera. Nikkei covered the statements.

The image quality of smartphones will exceed that of single-lens reflex cameras in 2024, and Sony G will show the prospect

“We expect that still images will exceed the image quality of single-lens reflex cameras within the next few years.” Terushi Shimizu

Smartphone sensors have always incorporated the latest and greatest sensor technology, but I am curious what kind of leap Sony expects that will make the significantly smaller sensors in a smartphone outperform a larger sensor camera.

DPReview tested firmware 1.01 which was released to fix the Eye AF of the Sony a7IV because it was focusing on eyelashes instead of eyes. Hopefully, Sony gets eye AF right in their next firmware update.
