PP: Sony a7IV vs Canon R6: Surprisingly Close

Sony a7IV: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama
Canon R6: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Sony a7IV came out around one year after the Canon R6 so it has a bit of an advantage, but it is still an interesting comparison considering how much Canon has improved the R6 via firmware updates over the years. Below is a summary of the above comparison:

  • Can’t agree on which camera handles the best so Jordan jumps in and declares the Canon the winner
  • Sony has more megapixels 33MP vs 24MP
  • Both have similar dynamic range
  • Canon bakes in noise reduction
  • Sony is the winner for sensor quality
  • Canon has improved its AF, but Sony is still the king of autofocus
  • The Canon has good AF for photos, but not as good for video while Sony is great at both
  • Sony clearly wins AF
  • Canon has 8 stops of IBIS while Sony has 5 stops of IBIS
  • Canon wins IBIS
  • Canon can burst faster so it wins if you machinegun shoot
  • Sony has some rolling shutter compared to Canon so it wins video
  • Sony gets 580 shots on one battery and so does Canon according to CIPA
  • In real life, Sony has much better autofocus
  • Sony has a way better lens line up compared to Canon
  • Sony Win’s Autofocus, Image Quality, Battery Life, and Lens Lineup
  • Canon Win’s handling, Stabilization, Video, Burst Shooting

Sony ZV-E20 Coming No Later Than September/October

Sony ZV-E10: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama
Sony ZV-E1: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

An accessory maker recently published an upcoming list of products and they very clearly listed that a Sony ZV-E20 accessory will be coming in September/October. This is not a typo because they also intend to release Sony ZV-E1 and Sony ZV-E10 accessories around the same time. So we should expect to see an announcement before or in September/October.

  • Apochromatic design: The APO design, which combines multiple special lenses, effectively suppresses chromatic aberration, enabling high-resolution image expression at all shooting distances. It can be used not only for close-ups, but also as a normal telephoto lens with a focal length of 200mm, which is useful when shooting distant subjects. It is also ideal for taking advantage of beautiful bokeh and using compression effects, demonstrating unique descriptive power.
  • Inner focus method: The inner focus system keeps the overall length of the lens unchanged even when the focus ring is operated, allowing you to concentrate on shooting without worrying about contact with the subject even when taking close-up shots.
  • Macro photography is possible while maintaining a distance from the subject: Taking advantage of the moderate working distance, it is possible to shoot subjects that are difficult to get close to and create lighting with a high degree of freedom.
