Sony Continued Dominating Mirrorless Camera Sales in 2020 and Nikon is Looking Bad

The total amount of mirrorless cameras produced in 2020 was 3.26 million

  • Sony produced 1.15 million units
  • Canon produced 1.05 million units
  • Nikon produced 250,000 units
  • Others 855,000 (mostly Fujifilm)

Things are looking dyer for Nikon even if you include DSLR sales which were 2.39 million units in total, but only an additional 650,000 for Nikon

  • Canon produced 1.71 million units
  • Nikon produced 650,000 units
  • Others 30,000

Combined mirrorless and DSLR production data

  • Canon produced 2.76 million units
  • Sony produced 1.15 million units
  • Nikon produced 900,000 units
  • Others 885,000 (mostly Fujifilm)

Sony’s sales beat Nikon’s mirrorless and DSLR sales combined and Canon can beat Nikon’s combined sales with either its DSLR or Mirrorless sales so Sony is catching up to Canon now that they safely surpassed Nikon, but Canon’s mirrorless sales are solid and could grow beyond Sony’s if Sony doesn’t keep up the pressure.
