What Makes a Great Picture With Sony Artisan Ira Block

Ira Block, a National Geographic Photographer and Sony Artisan, provides some food for thought on what makes a picture great. He talks about a lot of Sony gear throughout the lecture, but if you’re curious about Ira’s preferences the Sony 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Tessar T FE OSS is his go too lens that’s always on his camera, but if he is shooting in low light he likes to use the Sony 55mm F1.8 Sonnar T FE ZA and Sony FE 28mm f/2. Beyond them he doesn’t allude to any other preferences, but you can read into the metadata from his photos in the video.

This Video Covers
Plan Before You Shoot
Key Components of a Photo
Light, Composition and Moment
The Sony Gear I Use
High ISO and Fast Shutter Speeds

Sony PhotoPlus Expo 2016 Coverage

Cameta visited the Sony booth at PhotoPlus to ask about the new Sony a6500, RX100 V, and a99 Mark II. It sounds like Sony is going to refresh some of their A-mount lenses from the interviews I have come across lately, but there isn’t anything definitively announced yet. Maybe we will see some new glass based on some the of advances in EF-mount lens design. I am interested to see if A-mount grows this years because translucent mirror technology is a good alternative to a mirror.  Read More »

Sony RX100 V 5.5k Video

Newsshooter created several 5.5k videos with the Sony RX100 V for videophiles to pick apart. Unfortunately when these videos were created they did not know that the camera would need to be setup with a shutter speed faster than 1/100th of a second to achieve 24fps so these clips are only roughly around 17fps because of the 1/50th of a second shutter speed that was used.

“It turns out that in order to get the maximum 24 fps you need to use a shutter speed much higher than 1/50th of the second. I was subsequently told that by going up to 1/100th of a second will get a frame rate of around 23 fps, but haven’t been able to test this again myself.”

You can read all of the details at Newsshooter if you want to know more and you can find more videos below. Read More »
