Sony announced the Sony RX0 today at their IFA press conference. It will be available Sept 5th at 12 am EST from B&H Photo. You can read more about the Sony RX0 at Sony.
“Internal recording options include 24/25/30/50 and 60 fps at 1080p, all at 50 Mb/s in the XAVC codec, as well as super-slow motion at up to 960 fps. Still photos can be captured in both raw and JPEG with shutter speeds as fast as 1/32,000/second, and in bursts up to 16 fps. Uncompressed UHD 4K video is output via HDMI for capture to external recorders. The Sony RX0’s additional pro-style features include manual- and auto-focus modes, a 20″ minimum focus distance, S-Log2 recording, NTSC and PAL compatibility, and on-camera control buttons.” – B&H Photo
So the camera only outputs clean 4k for external recorders. This camera will be great for creating multi came VR rigs that stay dry, but this seems like a huge limitation. Maybe Sony should charge a little less if you need an external recorder to fully utilize these cameras.
