Sony Medium Format News

Photolari published an interesting interview with Sony today that includes a few details about the potential future production of a Sony medium format camera. Sony claims if they decided to launch a medium format camera they could do it, but that now is not the right time. The launch of a medium format camera would require Sony to build a new ecosystem and they are quite busy right now building out their full frame camera system. It would also be a good idea for Sony to get their user interface locked down similar to Fujifilm in order to make more users happy because even their new Sony a9 user interface has not quieted complaints from photographers.

New Sony Sensors Announced And One Could Be Used For A RX100 Monochrome

The new IMX183CLK-J by Sony could be a really interesting sensor for enthusiasts if Sony decided to put it inside of an RX100 body. Sony has been making a lot of interesting monochrome sensors lately and it would be great to have some competition on the market beyond the very expensive and specialized options currently available from Leica and others. Lots of companies currently take advantage of Sony 1″ sensors, but Sony is one of the few risk takers that is trying to push the industry forward as a whole through innovation. An affordable Monochrome pocket camera with a 1″ sensor would provide excellent high ISO capabilities and resolution that could exceed APS-C performance if executed properly.

Sony RX0 vs GoPro5

This is the first time we are getting a look at how the Sony RX0 compares to the GoPro 5 and it absolutely embarrasses the GoPro in low light. With the GoPro 6 having little to offer over the GoPro 5 the RX0 should be a great option for professionals and cinematographers looking to capture footage in difficult lighting conditions and since the RX0 supports S-Log the footage can be graded, unlike inflexible GoPro footage. Hopefully we will see more coverage of this somewhat odd camera in the near future, because it has a lot of potential.
