Sony a7III: Reviews, Recording Limit, EU Import Duty, and Testing

Max Yuryev calls the Sony a7III the best hybrid camera ever in his Sony a7III review and he gives plenty of evidence to back up his claim. The Sony a7III certainly looks impressive for the price, but when is Sony going to fix their menus once and for all? Max also brings up another interesting point the 30-minute recording limit, which we have all known about for years. Shortly before he published this video I wrote an article about the EU import duty and how the  WTO: Information Technology Agreement would affect the tax.

It came up when he was talking about his wish list for future cameras and a Sony rep told him they could just release cameras with a different serial number because the US doesn’t have a restriction or they could wait for the tax to expire in 2018. So it seems that 2019 is when the entire EU will get rid of the ridiculous tax that has fundamentally shaped the camera market, but there has always been a workaround. International agreements relating to free trade are interesting affairs and I spent a decent amount of time reading about this issue yesterday, but where there is demand companies find a way to satisfy the demand.

Beyond recording time rear LCD’s that are able to face forward are in high demand and low supply. Many wanted this feature on the Fujifilm X-H1 and the demand is no different with the Sony a7III. Vlogging has become incredibly popular and it’s one of the reasons camera blogs end up linking to a lot of videos instead of written reviews. Very few photographers/videographers take the time to write reviews anymore.

Max Yuryev’s Sony a7III Lowlight Comparison: a7III vs a7RIII vs a6500 vs GH5

Max Yuryev made a name for himself as one of the top youtube videographers and his output is pretty far ahead of everyone else. While others are just offering their impressions Max took the time to do a Full Frame and Super 35 mode comparison video, which concluded with the Sony a7III is the top performer. I’m curious if his next video will include the Sony a7SII, but for now, this video definitively proves that the Sony a7III indeed does have a next-generation sensor.
