Picktorial 3.5 Released

Picktorial 3.5 was just released and you can read about some of the changes below like DAM, but it is also bringing a subscription model which might be controversial. I greatly enjoy a lot of these smaller RAW editors myself and I always find it disappointing when they turn to a subscription model like Adobe. I wish companies would stop doing this because it turns off a large portion of users.

DPReview: Sony New Year’s Resolutions

DPReview put together a wishlist article about what they would like to see from each manufacturer in 2019. Noticeably absent from their list is fix Sony’s menus. While the current Sony menus are clearer than in the past they could still use some work in my opinion. Sony should also enter the medium format market sooner rather than later. There is a good chance that Canon and Nikon have plans for that market with their new large mounts and Fujifilm is already there.

Sony – in 2019 we wish you would…

  • Create a Cyber-shot RX1R III (with a real battery, not that joke-shop one from last time).
  • Throw your a6000-series customers a bone and make some new APS-C lenses.
  • Make your video and stills AF experience consistent.
  • Speaking of 35mm, make an FE 35mm F1.8. Your non-pro and pro customers will thank you.
  • Focus on user experience, as well as technology. We get it, you’re smart!

Sony TOUGH SD: Testing

Sony released some additional testing of the new Sony TOUGH SD cards, which you can watch below. Basically, their performance is the same as the high-speed cards that Sony released last year, but they are designed to be abused some. I’m glad that Sony is continuing to push SD technology, but I wonder if another format might take over soon.

DPReviewTV: Mirrorless Party 2018

Jordan and Drake created an amusing end of year tribute to mirrorless full frame cameras. With the Sony a7III and Leica M being the old timer mirrorless cameras and the Canon EOS R and Nikon Z being late to the party until the Panasonic S1 shows up to intimidate them all. It’s a great tribute to 2018, but I wish they included the Fujifilm X-T3 and GFX trying to get into the Full Frame party or something like that just to include all the major players in the mirrorless market.
