ZEISS Otus 1.4/100

The Telephoto Lens.
With its new Otus 1.4/100, ZEISS has expanded the tried and tested Otus family to include a new telephoto focal length. The ZEISS Otus 1.4/100 is one of the best lenses in its class due to its low sample variation, outstanding imaging performance, and superior build quality.

With the same uncompromising performance that makes all Otus lenses stand out, the ZEISS Otus 1.4/100 is a truly exceptional lens. A lens that is a reflection of the comprehensive expertise and extensive experience of ZEISS.

Although developed for 35 mm full-frame cameras, the Otus® 1.4/100 gives you the quality and look of a medium-format system.
Whether in the studio or on location, this lens stands out in every situation thanks to its high resolution and excellent sharpness – even at the maximum aperture of f/1.4.

Whether portrait or product photography, the bokeh will impress you. The apochromatic lens design with aspherical lenses and special glass prevents almost all conceivable aberrations. In addition, the high-quality coating keeps the contrast high, even when shooting against the light, and minimizes lens flare.

DPR: Studio Scene Sony a7III/a7RIII vs Panasonic S1/S1R

Panasonic’s new S1 and S1R camera were added to the DPR Studio comparison tool here, Panasonic’s sensor seems to compare well to Sony, but will it be enough? The main area where Panasonic L-Mount cameras fall behind Sony at this time is with their DFD AF system that is significantly behind Sony’s current AF system, but maybe Panasonic will try something with PDAF in the future. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye on Panasonic going forward since they are starting with a great lens line up that will features both Leica and Sigma AF glass.

Save $80 on Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE

The exceptional Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III RXD FE is currently $80 off on Amazon. B&H Photo currently has the Tamron listed for $879 and so does Adorama. This lens is a way better value than the Sony 24-70mm GM unless you absolutely must have 24mm. I find 28mm to be enough for me even when I choose to use this lens for Astrophotography.

It’s interesting that Amazon has the Tamron listed for its original asking price without showing that it is discounted. Maybe someone messed up the listing or maybe the price is going to come back down even though demand is very strong for this lens.

DPRTV: Sony a6400 vs Fujifilm X-T30 Buyers Guide

DPReviewTV made a comparison buyers guide video for the Fujifilm X-T30 and Sony a6400 but didn’t come to a firm final conclusion. Below is the break down of their opinion:

Price:
Almost exactly the same

Handling:
Dimensions Sony is shorter from top to bottom, but the Fujifilm is thinner
It’s all about hump and bump
Fujifilm manual controls are superior
Sony manual control are mushy
Fujifilm joystick is preferable
Both have my menus
Sony has more customizable button
Sony weather sealed

Autofocus:
X-T30 is a huge improvement, but face/eye tracking only works well up close
a6400 has the best AF of any APS-C camera they have tried
Video AF is great on both, but the sony edges out the Fujifilm

Color:
Sony has improved their color, but Fujifilm wins with great color, film simulation, RAW processing in the camera
Can always fix Sony colors in RAW editor

Technology:
Fujifilm has the newer faster sensor
Sony has better high ISO

Lens Selection:
Fujifilm wins hands down because they have an extensive lineup of high quality reasonably priced glass
Sony has ignored APS-C
Sigma makes some nice prime lenses for Sony

Displays:
Fujifilm has higher resolution LCD but touchscreen controls aren’t great
Sony has a fully articulating screen and a higher magnification EVF

Video:
Fujifilm 10min 4k and 15min 1080p recording
Sony unlimited 4k record time
Both support 4k 30p
Sony has a 3.5 mm mic jack
Fuji has a 2.5 mm mic jack
Fujifilm USB monitoring ability
Sony a6400 4k has crop and has rolling shutter
Fujifilm full sensor readout for 4k and little rolling shutter
Fujifilm has higher data record rate and you can get 10-bit output via HDMI

Conclusion:
Looks like Fujifilm X-T30 is the winner, but both are very close
Fujifilm’s biggest advantage is that it has superior color
Sony’s biggest advantage is tack sharp images

Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 ASPH Selling Quickly on Amazon

The Voigtlander 50mm f/1.2 Aspherical for E-Mount has been listed on Amazon by Camera Quest, but there aren’t many lenses left. Voigtlander has been making some great lenses in recent years so if you want a fast manual focus 50mm this is probably your best option at this time. Check Amazon while supplies last.

“The NOKTON 50mm F1.2 Aspherical E-mount is a high-speed manual focus lens optimized for the full frame imaging sensors of Sony mirrorless cameras. 50mm F1.2 standard lens could be called a special lens for photo enthusiasts. During the middle to late 20th century, when the maximum aperture of fast standard lenses was generally F2 or F1.4, a 50mm lens with F1.2 aperture was favored by professional photographers as a special fast lens. Because of this, even today many photo enthusiasts are still captured by the tradition and charm of this lens. The NOKTON 50mm F1.2 Aspherical E-mount is a newly designed standard lens with today’s technology for specifications that bring out the best in a high-speed standard lens. By using two out of eight elements, each with two aspherical surfaces, it realizes a compact size while having a large aperture. With this lens, you can enjoy comfortable handling well-balanced with camera body and gentle, ample bokeh.”
