DPRTV compare the newly released Tamron 35mm f/2.8 vs Sony Zeiss 35mm f/2.8. Below are excerpts from the video:

  • 2.8 primes can be very compact which is probably why they exist
  • Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 is the most compact
  • Zeiss is 132g the Tamron is 210g
  • Tamron has a larger diameter with 67mm filters and the Sony takes 49mm
  • Most modern Tamron lenses have a 67mm filter thread
  • Not much difference in the center sharpness
  • Wide-open in the corners, the Tamron is noticeably better than the Zeiss
  • The Zeiss has a metal focus ring that is great
  • Tamron focus ring is plastic and has play
  • Zeiss has tons of LOCA with a magenta shift in the foreground and bright cyan in the background
  • Tamron is well controlled with a slight magenta ting in the foreground and slight green in the background, but very well controlled

ZY Optics release the Mitakon 85mm f/2.8 1-5X Super Macro Lens with extended working distance
Shenyang China, Nov 25, 2019 – Zhongyi Optics (ZY Optics) have released a new Super Macro Lens for full frame cameras, the Zhongyi Mitakon 85mm f/2.8 1-5x Super Macro Lens and it features a wide magnification range and a very long working distance.

Zhongyi Mitakon 85mm f/2.8 1-5X Super Macro Lens has a wide magnification range (from 1X to 5X) allowing photographers to capture subjects at different sizes. Users no longer need to DIY or use any extension tubes to reach high magnification shooting. The lens is also designed to have one of the longest working distance for ANY super macro lens. The closest working distance at 5x magnification is 3.93” (10cm) and 10.7” (27.2cm) at 1x magnification. This working distance is so much longer than traditional macro lenses in the market. Photographers can now start shooting macro objects without getting too close and scare them away. The extended working distance also implies lighting can get to the subjects easier. It is also more friendly to use on video shooting. This new super macro lens also has a near telecentric performance which is a big advantage when it comes to macro image stacking photography or industrial usage.

The new 1x-5x Super Macro lens incorporates a 12 elements in 8 groups structure which delivers impressive resolution from corners to corners. The chromatic aberration is also controlled to the minimum (APO design). Weighing merely 1.65 lbs (750g) and 6.7cm long, it is a perfect companion for both wildlife or indoor lab shooting. It is relatively compact in its class which allows photographers to capture extremely fine subjects or patterns with different sizes. Greater magnification can also be achieved by stacking extension tubes or bellows. The high magnification is extremely useful for scientific purposes. The lens can only be used in macro distances and cannot focus to infinity. A 58mm filter thread is also available.

The enclosure of the lens is made of metal to strengthen its durability. Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony FE, Sony Alpha, Pentax K, Sony E, Micro Four Thirds, Fuji X mounts are available.

A free tripod collar and LED ring light are included in the package.

Sony World Photography Awards Announces Alpha Female Award In 2020 Open Competition

The Sony World Photography Awards has announced the Alpha Female Award as part of the 2020 SWPA Open competition. The winner will be announced at the Sony World Photography Awards night in London. Deadline to enter is January 7, 2020. See the full announcement below and click here to enter.

Alpha Female Award: To celebrate the engaging photographic work created by women worldwide, Sony US announces the Alpha Female Award. The prize recognizes leading female photographers entering the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition. Aiming to promote international photographers embracing a range of subject matter, this Award acknowledges the rich diversity of photography today.

The winner receives a range of Sony digital imaging equipment and their image will be displayed at the Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition at Somerset House in London. The winner’s work will be displayed alongside a carefully curated selection of recent imagery by the creators and mentors from the Sony Alpha female US program.

The recipient of the Alpha Female Award will be announced on April 16, 2020, at the 2020 Sony World Photography Awards night in London.

All female photographers entering a single image to any of the ten categories in the Sony World Photography Awards’ Open competition will be considered for the Alpha Female Award. Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD First Look

Digitalcamera.jp posted the first images of the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD in addition to some more info which you can read translated below or in Japanese here. The blog doesn’t break posts down into pages so I cant link to the post exactly, but as of today it is still on the main page. He also got a look at the new Tamron 20mm, 24mm, and 35mm lens.

The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 Di III VXD will be released next spring and the Tamron 20mm f/2.8 will be released in January.

Translated:

-Tamron will be exhibiting the new E mount lens, which will be unveiled for the first time in general, at the booth over acrylic.
-With a development announcement, the 70-180mmF2.8 is extremely compact, although it will be released next spring.
-If you look at the actual machine, it is compact enough not to think of F2.8. It feels even smaller than Canon’s “RF70-200mmF2.8L”.
