Nissin MF18 Macro Flash Now For Sony

Nissin just announced their MF18 macro flash for Sony, which came out for Canon and Nikon already. You can read the old press release below and the flash should be listed soon at B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Canon/Nikon Press Release for MF18
Kenro has announced the UK launch of a new Nissin ring flash, the MF18 Macro Flash.

This new addition to Nissin’s acclaimed range of flash equipment allows photographers to achieve an even spread of light from their macro work which means an end to overexposed images and removes the problem of ugly shadows. The MF18 Macro Flash is particularly suited to portraiture, either in a studio or on location.

The flash boasts an impressive high power guide number of 16m (100 ISO) and the power ratio can be adjusted down to 1/1024 in the Fine Macro mode. The MF18 also provides a Wireless TTL function enabling the addition of slave flashes. Firmware updates are available directly from the Nissin website via the unit’s USB connection.

The flash head extends in diameter and will fit lenses from 49 to 82mm with mount adaptors. 52, 58, 62, 67, 72 and 77mm adapters are included with 49, 55 and 82mm being available as optional extras. The flash is powered by four AA batteries and is also compatible with the Nissin PS300, the Canon CP-E4, the Nikon SD-8A and the Nikon SD-9 power packs.

Kenro managing director Paul Kench made this comment on the release: “Ring flash can be an expensive luxury, but now, thanks to the MF18 Macro Flash, it is within reach of every serious photographer. I’m delighted Nissin have introduced this unit, it’s easy to use and produces very impressive results.”

The MF18 is available with either a Canon or Nikon fit and has an RRP of £359.99.

Sony Becomes First Japanese Company to Make CDP’s Climate Change A-List for 5 Consecutive Years

Sony Becomes First Japanese Company*1 to Make CDP’s

Climate Change A-List for 5 Consecutive Years
Tokyo, Japan – Sony Corporation (Sony) has been included in the CDP’s A-List*2 for the 5th consecutive year, recognizing it as one of the highest performing companies in its efforts to reduce the energy consumption of its products, curb greenhouse gas emissions, and accelerate the use of renewable energy.

Recognizing that Sony’s existence depends on a healthy environment and society, Sony continues to promote environmental initiatives from a long-term perspective. Sony Group has adopted a “Road to Zero” long-term environmental plan that plots a course to a zero environmental footprint for the company’s operations and across the lifecycle of its products, by 2050. Moving toward this vision for the future, Sony set about pursuing its “Green Management 2020” environmental mid-term targets from fiscal 2016, which it aims to achieve by the end of fiscal 2020. Its results in combating climate change as of fiscal 2018 are as follows:

  • Approx. 51% reduction of annual energy consumption per product (target: average reduction of 30% compared to FY2013).
  • Use of renewable energy equivalent to approx. 238,000 tons of CO2
(aggregate total for FY2016-2018; target: Use of renewable energy equivalent to 300,000 tons of CO2 by FY2020)
  • Approx. 14% reduction of absolute greenhouse gas emissions at all Sony sites (target: 5% reduction compared to FY2015).

Additionally, in its pursuit of a zero environmental footprint, Sony joined RE100*3 in September 2018, and will aim to use 100% renewable electricity for all of its business sites by 2040. Furthermore, Sony has continued to enhance its disclosure of climate change-related information, such as by endorsing the final report published by the Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD Recommendations*4) in May 2019.

Through these and other measures, Sony will continue striving to minimize the environmental footprint of its supply chain, bring forth environmentally conscious products and services, and work to create a better and more sustainable society, toward the achievement of its “Green Management 2020” targets and ultimately an environmental footprint of zero.

About the CDP
The CDP is a nonprofit organization (NPO) founded in the UK in 2000. Backed by investors from around the globe, it conducts surveys on climate change and water management responses at private companies, then analyzes and releases the findings of these surveys to the public. This year, the CDP surveyed over 8,400 companies globally on behalf of more than 525 institutional investors representing more than 96 trillion U.S. dollars in managed assets.

  • *1:As of January 2020, according to research by Sony.
  • *2:The rating system is a 4-rank scale (A, A-, B, B-, C, C-, D, D-, F). The A List is made up of the companies awarded the highest performance rank of “A.”
  • *3:A global initiative whose members seek to supply the electricity for their business activities using 100% renewable energy.
  • *4:TCFD is a task force established by the FSB in 2015, and the TCFD Recommendations suggest a framework for the voluntary disclosure by companies of information such as climate-related risks and opportunities.

Rumored Sony a7IV and a7S Specs

EOSHD came across some specs for the upcoming a7 cameras that Photorumors shared. They seem possible, but not very plausible to me since the video specs are so disappointing. It’s also odd to jump to a7SIV over a7SIII with such an unimpressive long-delayed upgrade.

New Affordable Zonlai Square Hoods

Zonlai released a teaser for their new affordable Leica style square lens hoods which look really nice and feature Sony cameras. The hoods attach via filter threads so the 49mm hood designed for the Zonlai 35mm f/1.6 should fit several Sony lenses like the Sony FE 28mm f/2, Sony Sonnar T* FE 35mm f/2.8 ZA, Sony Sonnar T* FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA, and many NEX lenses (APS-C).

The 46mm that is designed for the Zonlai 22mm f/1.8 should fit on the Sigma 19mm f/2.8 EX DN (both versions) and Sigma 30mm F/2.8 EX DN, which are NEX lenses (APS-C).

The hoods should be available soon on Amazon for around $25 when they become available in the US
