Sony WW119533 Registered

Nokishita spotted the WW119533 registered after the WW271448 and that it is in a new category of camera DC instead of DCS. The previous registration might be for the Sony a7SIII or Sony a7IV, along with an RX Cyber-shot type camera above but we probably won’t know for sure for a few more weeks.

Sony WW119533 [digital camera (new category “DC”, not digital still camera “DSC”). Wi-Fi (11b / g / n) / Bluetooth installed]. Sony WW271448 [Wi-Fi (11a / b / g / n / ac) / Bluetooth installed].

5 Year Old Sony Leaf Shutter Patent Nothing New

There has been some noise about a very old leaf shutter patent that Sony filed in 2015. While a mirrorless leaf shutter medium format cameras at an affordable price is extremely desirable to fans of leaf shutters it is unlikely we will see anything soon.

Leaf shutters are great if you want to be able to flash sync at any speed the lens is capable of operating at since the leaf device is located in the lest most of the time. This makes the lens larger but allows for a smaller body like the Hasselblad X1D vs Fujifilm GFX. It also reduces or eliminates shutter shock. Yet it is still unlikely we will see anything soon from Sony because the technology can be expensive compared to a focal plane shutter.

You can read the full patent here.

Sony Polarization Image Sensor Technology

Sony released information about its Polarization Image Sensor Technology as part of its Sony Technology Day Report. While this isn’t a photography camera sensor many technologies like this from smaller sensors like camera phones make it to Sony photography sensors at some point so we might see this technology in the future.

Image sensors and the algorithms behind them continue to get better and better, but now Sony seems to be putting more physical features on the sensor. We might even see this technology in smartphones before we see it on a camera since it is difficult to use filters on smartphones.

Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE Review

Photography blog reviewed the Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE and came away impressed calling it highly recommended with an overall 4.5 star rating. Below is a summary and you can read the full review here.

The new Samyang AF 75mm f/1.8 FE is a remarkably small and compact short-telephoto lens that’s both super-sharp and capable of delivering some delicious bokeh, all at a price that seriously undercuts its main rivals. It doesn’t feature any degree of weather-proofing, and the auto-focusing system isn’t quite as snappy as Sony’s native alternatives, but otherwise there’s very little to complain about, and lots to like.

Sony a9II vs Canon EOS-1DX Mark III: Rolling Shutter, AF Comparison, and Face Recognition (Sony Still Wins)

Canon and Nikon have cameras coming to compete with the Sony a9II and so far it seems like the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III can’t keep up with the older Sony a9II. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since Sony moved far out from technologically with the Sony a9 and a7 line of cameras this past year, but could Canon catch up with firmware updates?
