Potential Sony a7V Registration Found

A new registration in Thailand has been found, which is believed to be for the Sony a7V. However, there is a small chance that this registration is for a new line, as some Sony cameras have different designations for manufacturing in other countries. The current Sony A7IV is manufactured in Thailand, so this is likely the Sony a7V.

LR: Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM Review – The Sharpest Macro Lens Today

Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Lens Rentals published an in-depth review of the Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 Macro GM, finding it to be the sharpest macro lens available today. You can read the full review here or check out the summary below:

Key Advantages:

  • Higher Magnification: The lens offers a 1.4x magnification, which is a significant increase compared to the standard 1:1 ratio found in many other macro lenses, allowing for more detailed close-up shots.
  • Teleconverter Compatibility: A major highlight is its compatibility with the Sony FE 2.0x teleconverter. This combination doubles the focal length to 200mm and boosts the magnification to an impressive 2.8x, enabling photographers to get closer to their subjects without physically moving the lens and potentially blocking light.
  • Fast Autofocus: The review emphasizes the lens’s fast and responsive autofocus system, which is attributed to the inclusion of four XD linear motors. The author notes it’s the fastest autofocus they’ve experienced in a macro lens, a significant improvement over the typically slower focusing speeds of macro lenses.
  • Exceptional Sharpness: When compared to a high-end Fujifilm GF 120mm f/4 Macro lens mounted on a Fujifilm GFX 100s, the Sony 100mm GM on a Sony a7R V produced images that were noticeably sharper.
  • Advanced Optical Design: The lens features a complex optical design with 17 elements in 13 groups and a Nano AR coating, which effectively minimizes ghosting and flaring, contributing to its high image quality.

Overall Conclusion:
The reviewer was “deeply impressed” with the lens’s performance, concluding that Sony has successfully created the “sharpest macro lens on the market today.”
