Sony Ultra-Wide 16mm F1.8 G:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Sony FE 16mm F1.8 G is a fast ultra-wide angle lens for landscape photography and content creation. Despite its relatively large aperture, it is compact and lightweight. This makes it ideal for smaller full-frame cameras. An additional advantage is that the minimum focusing distance is particularly short, allowing the capture of striking close-up images. The lens features an aperture ring, which can be locked or declicked. This makes it well-suited for video as well as photography. Outdoor use in inclement weather is possible too, thanks to the dust and moisture resistant construction. Best of all, the lens is very reasonably priced.

Sony FE 85mm f/1.4 GM II:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Sony FE 85mm F1.4 GM II is a refined update to one of Sony’s most beloved portrait lenses. This second-generation G Master lens brings notable improvements in image quality, autofocus speed, and overall usability. It features a redesigned optical formula with two XA and two ED elements, delivering edge-to-edge sharpness even wide open at F1.4, while preserving the signature creamy bokeh. The autofocus system is exceptionally fast and reliable. The design is noticeably lighter and better balanced, and it adds a more tactile aperture ring and dual customizable buttons. With its improved optics, precise AF, and professional-grade weather-sealing, this is an ideal lens for portrait photography.

Sony FE 28-70mm f/2 GM:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

This outstanding standard zoom lens is designed for professional photographers and videographers who shoot such things as weddings and events, and who want to use a larger aperture than f/2.8 without giving up the flexibility of a zoom. This constant f/2 zoom in a compact form delivers fantastic optical quality, producing sharp, clean images regardless of the focal length, aperture, or focus distance. Despite its large aperture, it offers fast, silent autofocus and it’s also a perfectly practical size. A comprehensive set of controls is onboard, including an aperture ring that can be switched between clicked and smooth operation. It’s a really special lens that’s an impressive achievement by Sony.

Sony FE 50-150mm f/2 GM:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Our lens of the year is the world’s first telephoto zoom for full-frame mirrorless cameras with a large, constant, aperture of f/2. Designed for professional photographers and videographers shooting such things as portraits, weddings, indoor sports and events, it delivers top-notch image quality in a compact form, thanks to the advanced optics of the G Master series. This ensures outstanding sharpness and image clarity across the entire image area. The bright f/2 aperture allows for clear separation of the subject from the background, while the 11-blade diaphragm provides smooth blur. This makes it one of the best lenses on the market.

Sony Alpha 1 II:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Sony Alpha 1 II provides state-of-the-art technology for professional photo and video applications. It combines speed, resolution and high video quality in a robust, weatherproof housing. Its 50MP stacked full-frame sensor delivers detailed images with wide dynamic range, along with an impressive shooting rate of 30 frames per second with continuous autofocus. AI-based subject recognition autofocus reliably tracks people, animals, vehicles and other objects, while the updated image stabiliser gives up to 8.5 stops compensation. The camera also impresses in the video sector with 8K 30p recording, 4K at up to 120p, and professional options such as 16-bit raw via HDMI. What’s more, the high-resolution 9.44m-dot electronic viewfinder and the versatile touchscreen enable precise composition.

Sigma 24-40mm f/1.8, 28-45mm f/1.8, and 30-50mm f/1.8

Patents were found for Sigma 24-40mm f/1.8, 28-45mm f/1.8, and 30-50mm f/1.8 lenses. You can check out the patent below:

overview

  • [Publication number] P2025116419
  • [Release date] 2025-08-08
  • [Name of invention] Zoom lens
  • [Application date] 2024-01-29
  • [Applicant]
    [Identification number] 000131326
[Name or company name] Sigma Corporation
  • To provide a zoom lens that has a large aperture ratio but a reduced overall length, has little center of gravity movement during zooming and focusing, is capable of quiet autofocusing, and is suitable for video shooting.
  • [Background Art]
    [0002]
In recent years, video shooting using interchangeable lens cameras has become common. To ensure smooth video shooting, it is desirable for the center of gravity in the lens to move as little as possible during zooming and focusing. Furthermore, since a loud motor drive noise during autofocusing can potentially be picked up by the audio recording, it is also important to enable quiet autofocusing.
  • [0003]
As interchangeable lenses for single-lens cameras, large-aperture zoom lenses with bright maximum apertures are popular because they combine the convenience of a zoom lens with the characteristics of a bright maximum aperture. In addition, large-format cameras, which have large sensor sizes and excellent image quality, have become popular in recent years, and large-aperture zoom lenses compatible with large-format cameras are in demand.
  • [0004]
Examples of zoom lenses with a large aperture ratio include the zoom lenses disclosed in the following patent documents.
  • [0006]
Patent Document 1 discloses a negative-lead type large-aperture zoom lens with a maximum aperture of approximately F2.8. However, the focus lens group is heavy and contains many lenses, making it difficult to achieve fast and quiet autofocus. In addition, the overall length of the optical system is long, and aiming for an even larger aperture ratio would result in a huge zoom lens, which is not realistic.
  • [0008]
The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and aims to provide a zoom lens that has a large aperture ratio but a reduced overall length, has little movement of the center of gravity during zooming and focusing, is capable of quiet autofocusing, and is suitable for video shooting.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 28.84-43.66
  • F-number: 1.86
  • Angle of view: 75.19-50.51
  • Image height: 21.63
  • Total length: 168.66

Example 2

  • Focal length: 24.72-38.82
  • F-number: 1.86
  • Angle of view: 85.45-55.91
  • Image height: 21.63
  • Total length: 164.03

Example 3

  • Focal length: 30.88-48.48
  • F-number: 1.86
  • Angle of view: 73.11-46.05
  • Image height: 21.63
  • Back focal length: 174.77
