Pros

  • Excellent sharpness wide open in the centre on most of the range (50 to 200mm) , very good at 300mm
  • Price
  • Compact and light
  • Very versatile lens with 6x zoom : portrait, proxy macro, street, travel, landscape, sport or wildlife
  • Soft background blur as of 100mm
  • Very good color rendition
  • Good ergonomics with possible customisation via Tamron lens utility
  • Very Good build quality
  • Very good AF in most cases
  • Low focus breathing
  • Almost parfocal
  • Min focusing distance
    • at 50mm is 22cm allowing to do proxy photography (0;5x magnification ratio),
    • at 300mm – 90cm – 0,33 x magnification ratio
  • Good Resistance to flare
  • Low CA

Average

  • Good to very good corners
  • AF for erratic movements
  • AF : slight misfocus in 15% of cases
  • Zoom throw a bit long
  • Small aperture make ISO climbing fast on the long range
  • Distortion and Vignetting (but this should be automatically corrected in Lightroom in the future)
