IT System Incident in Our Group
We regret to report an IT system incident affecting the functional IT systems of our headquarters and several of our business divisions which was discovered on March 30, 2024 (hereafter referred to as “the incident”).

We have been working diligently to address the incident and remediate our systems, and have engaged external specialist consultants to facilitate the restoration and integrity of our systems as quickly as possible. We have also made necessary reports and are consulting with relevant authorities. We expect these efforts to help minimize the adverse impact of the incident on our customers and our business.

1. Outline and Facts
In the morning of March 30, 2024, we discovered a discrepancy in system behavior at one of our overseas offices and confirmed that a system failure had occurred. We immediately responded by isolating the failed servers and reported the matter to the relevant authorities in the affected countries. We also engaged external forensic investigators who reported that
this incident was most likely caused by unauthorized access to our servers by a third party.

While the full effects, extent and nature of the incident continue to be investigated, the systems for some production plants and the ordering system for several products have been affected. The Company is making every effort to respond to customer demand and minimize the impact on our customers to the greatest extent possible. We are also investigating whether any confidential or personal information held by the Company has been compromised or accessed by third parties, but the full analysis is expected to take a considerable number of days.

We will fully comply with our internal policies and local regulations as needed depending on the results discovered. We will continue to investigate and analyze the impact of this incident in cooperation with outside experts and relevant authorities, and will take measures to restore the systems necessary for production and sales activities and to resume the supply system of products to customers as soon as possible.

2. Forecast
The impact of this matter on our business performance is not known at this time, but we will promptly disclose the impact of this matter on our business performance, if any, as soon as it arises.

Sony’s optical system patents such as “12mm F2.8”, “14mm F2”, “20mm F1.8”, etc.

overview

  • Patent 7428179
  • [Registration date] 2024-01-29
  • [Publication date] 2024-02-06
  • [Name of the invention] Optical system and imaging device
  • [Application date] 2020-03-18
  • [International release date] 2020-10-22
  • [Patent Holder]
    [Identification Number] 000002185
    [Name] Sony Group Corporation
  • BACKGROUND ART
    [0002]
In recent years, digital cameras with interchangeable lenses have rapidly become popular. As a wide-angle lens with a large aperture ratio and a bright F value for use in an interchangeable lens digital camera, many retrofocus type optical systems that ensure a long flange back have been proposed (see Patent Document 1).
  • [Summary of the Invention]
    On
the other hand, with the spread of mirrorless digital cameras, there is a demand for the development of a compact optical system with a short overall optical length that takes advantage of the short back focus.
  • [0005]
It is desirable to provide an optical system that is compact and has good optical performance despite having a large aperture ratio, and an imaging device equipped with such an optical system.

Example 1

  • Focal length: 14.42
  • F value: 2.06
  • Half angle of view: 56.09
  • Image height: 21.63

OL: Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Review

Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN:
B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 is yet another great value from Sigma and Optical Limits posted its full review which is very positive. You can read the full Optical Limits review here or look over the excerpt below:

The Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary is a bit of a surprise. You’d expect that a designated “Contemporary” lens comes with a couple of compromises compared to Sigma’s ART lenses…. However, there are surprisingly few. The aspect that stands out the most is high sharpness at all relevant settings. The center quality is superb but borders and corners are still very impressive… Lateral CAs are also low and with activated auto-correction, vignetting is restored to acceptable levels and image distortions are basically absent then. This is different in RAW images but that’s hidden from most users. Sun star lovers may not be overly thrilled with this lens whereas the bokeh is comparatively smooth for such a lens.

We always liked the build quality of Sigma lenses ever since the introduction of their ART/Contemporary/SPORTS lineups – and that’s no different here. While the lens body is made of engineered plastics (Thermally Stable Composite (TSC)), it feels sturdy while still being fairly lightweight – also helped by an internal zoom mechanism. An aspect there the “Contemporary” grade does show up is weather-sealing – it only features a gasket at the lens mount. Unlike it’s ART cousin, the 16-28mm f/2.8 also accepts front filters. The AF speed is pretty good although not really an important aspect on an ultra-wide lens.

Overall, Sigma has created a winner that combines high optical and mechanical qualities with an attractive price.
