Benefits and Improvements

Notes:

  • For customers using the Content Browser Mobile app:
    • After the update, you will not be able to use the monitoring function in the Content Browser Mobile app.
    • Please install the Monitor & Control app (Ver. 2.0 or later) to continue using this feature after the update.
  • Fixes an issue where, after updating the system software to Ver. 5.00, the audio from CH2 changes unintentionally when turning the power ON while the INPUT2 (audio input 2) switch is set to LINE.
    • We apologize for the inconvenience

This update also includes the following benefits from Ver. 5.00:

  • Adds support for the new preset 709tone Base Look
  • Adds a 1.5x De-Squeeze setting for both the viewfinder and HDMI output
  • Adds support for the Monitor & Control app, including:
    • Waveform and histogram displays
    • False-color and Focus Map displays
    • Monitoring at 1024×576 resolution

    Note: Please update the Monitor & Control app to the latest version (Ver. 2.0 or later) to continue using this feature after the update.

  • Adds support for the Area Indication setting when using the Multi Matrix correction feature
  • Improves the image quality when using 3D LUT software
  • Adds 23.98PsF (progressive segmented frame) support for SDI output
  • Adds support lenses (SEL100400GM, SEL200600G) for the Breathing Compensation function
  • Adds the ability to use the multi-selector to choose the focus target for the real-time tracking auto focus feature
  • Adds the following settings:
    • Format Media A or B setting on the Media status screen
    • Wireless LAN, Wired LAN, or Modem setting on the Network status screen
  • Improves the adjustment range of the Matrix/Multi Matrix settings when the Base Look is set to between User1 and User16, and when Target Display is set to HDR (HLG)
    Note: The effect on the setting values is different from Ver. 4.0 or earlier. If you are using the Matrix or Multi Matrix settings, please readjust the range.

The lens is sharp with fast AF and very few aberrations (aside from sensitivity to flare and quite a bit of breathing) and in the right hands can produce great images.

Sony CFexpress Type A memory cards CEA-G Series Notification of Free Repairs

Notification of free repairs and apology to customers who use CFexpress Type A memory cards CEA-G series

Dear Valued Sony Customer,

There may be issues with certain CEA-G series memory cards, where the memory cards are not recognized, or the image does not save correctly in low-temperature conditions. The issue may occur around the lower limit of the recommended operating temperature range (14° Fahrenheit, -10° Celsius).

To address this issue, we will repair affected memory cards free of charge until June 29, 2029, subject to the terms and conditions of the memory card’s original Limited Warranty.

Affected Models

CFexpress Type A memory cards CEA-G series
CEA-G80T / CEA-G160T / CEA-G320T / CEA-G640T that have the specific numbers listed below printed on the back of the product


Check the lot number on the back of your memory card to determine if your memory card is affected.

Affected CEA-G80T memory cards
Memory cards with 8-digit lot numbers from 22030050 through 23050157, except for the following lot numbers:
22030077, 22030094, 22040022, 22050028, 22050067, 22070075, 22110010, 22110015, 22110029, 22110037, 22110103
Memory cards with 9-digit lot numbers from 220300500 through 230501570.

Affected CEA-G160T memory cards
Products with 8-digit lot numbers from 22030127 through 24029999 except for the following lot numbers:
22040025, 22040068, 22050029, 22050068, 22070076
Memory cards with 9-digit lot numbers from 220301270 through 240299990.

Affected CEA-G320T memory cards
Memory cards with 8-digit lot numbers from 22090001 through 24029999.
Memory cards with 9-digit lot numbers from 220900010 through 240299990.

Affected CEA-G640T memory cards
Memory cards with 8-digit lot numbers from 23010001 through 24029999.

Resolution
IMPORTANT: Before sending your memory card for repair, make sure to back up the contents of the memory card and erase your files from the memory card. All content and data on the memory card will be deleted during the repair process and cannot be recovered. Sony Electronics Inc. is not responsible for the loss of any files or data on memory cards submitted under this repair program.

We will repair affected memory cards free of charge until June 29, 2029, subject to the terms and conditions of the memory card’s original Limited Warranty.

Sony is Working on a More Energy Dense Battery

The Sony FZ100 was the first mirrorless battery for cameras to make replacing DSLR cameras a reality and now it sounds like it will be replaced with a more powerful battery soon. It is unclear if this battery will be the same form factor as the FZ100, but if it is current FZ100 camera owners will get a nice upgrade soon. Third parties have offered additional power for years, but not enough to be noticeable.

Update: The form factor is the same so it will be compatible
