OL: Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 Review – It’s A Steal

Viltrox 56mm f/1.7 E: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

The Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 is yet another solid lens from Vitrox according to the Optical Limits review of the lens. You can check out the full review here or the excerpt below:

Unsurprisingly, the Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 E maintains the high quality levels that we’ve already seen with the X-mount version of the lens. The lens is very sharp at f/1.7 and downright superb at medium aperture settings. Image distortions and CAs are non-existent. Vignetting is on the very high in RAW images but decent when using auto-correction. The quality of the bokeh is impressive as well. Highlights are nicely rendered and the background blur is very smooth. Even LoCAs are on the low side. A bit of a hiccup are focus shifts towards the rear when stopping down. At very close focus distances this might be an issue…The build quality is far better than what you might expect from a lens of this the price tag.

Sony E PZ 16-300mm F3.5-8 G OSS Coming Soon

It is rumored that Sony will release an APS-C Sony E PZ 16-300mm f/3.5-8 G OSS lens between September and November. The lens will have electronic zoom and better aberration control, low dispersion performance, and better resolution performance than other similar lenses. The lens will also have well-controlled breathing. The Sony E PZ 16-300mm F3.5-8 G OSS will be the perfect travel lense for the Sony FX30 or Sony a6700.

2023 Global Market Share and Sales Volume of Digital / Video Cameras

DC.Life posted the Nikkei Industry Map 2025 Edition data on digital video and video camera sales for 2023. Canon is still on top followed by Sony and Nikon with Fujifilm coming in 4th. Interestingly, Fujifilm sells half as many as Nikon and Panasonic half as many as Fujifilm, with Fujifilm having a much tighter lineup of cameras.

  1. Canon: 3.34 million units (46.5%)
  2. Sony: 2 million units (27.9%)
  3. Nikon: 810,000 units (11.3%)
  4. Fujifilm: 430,000 units (6.0%)
  5. Panasonic: 260,000 units (3.6%)
  6. OM Digital: 180,000 units (2.5%)
  7. Ricoh Imaging: 60,000 units (0.8%)

Canon and Sony are unlikely to be overtaken, but Nikon and Fujifilm have room to grow and Fujifilm might even be able to overtake Nikon if it produced a popular video camera model and straightened out its supply chain issues. At least the ever-shrinking camera market seems to be slowing its decline.
