The replacement for the Sony a6000 is an incredible value and step up over one of Sony’s most popular cameras by far. The Sony 6100 has received almost universal praise and should be good enough for just about anyone to capture anything they would want. Below is a summary of the above video.

- Sony a6100 isn’t super comfortable to hold, but the new grip is appreciated
- EVF has been improved, but basically the same pixel count
- Back LCD should be higher resolution, but the new touch screen is good to have for picking AF points even if it is limited
- The a6100 is very fully featured, but it still uses Sony’s bad menu system
- The built-in flash is useful and can be bent back to shoot upwards unlike the a6600
- Sony-W battery is more efficient than ever and CIPA rated for 400+ shots
- The new AF system has great human and animal face/eye detection
- The new JPEG color engine is vastly improved over the a6000
- 11fps top speed shooting, but it’s not real-time so you are always seeing the previous shot you took
- Mid shooting speed is better for tracking things as they move around the scene
- The 16-50mm is the kit lens and it is one of the worst on the market
- If you’re going to print you should get a good cheap prime lens, but if you’re going to shoot for Instagram the kit lens is fine
- If you want better glass go with the Fujifilm X-A7 or Canon EOS M50 since their kit lenses are better
- New 24MP sensor is a substantial improvement over a6000 sensor.
- Realtime tracking is the reason to go Sony
- You can always shoot AF-C wide area if you’re not technical because it will pick the closest object or persons face first
- They recommend shooting flexible spot focus medium-sized
- Jordan likes to shoot auto ISO, but the only way to keep the shutter speed from going too low is to fix shutter and aperture in manual mode
- When shooting kids Jordan forces his camera to be 1/250 or even 1/500
- If you’re going to shoot video with the a6100 it is very capable and tracks well, but you should set your camera up for touch tracking.
- The video image out of the a6100 is very punchy
- Not a great handheld camera because of rolling shutter
- The a6100 is basically the same as camera as the a6000, but real-time AF is a game-changer worth the extra money alone
