MAP Cameras’ take

The top spot goes to the ‘SONY α7V’. This marks its fifth consecutive month at number one since its release in December 2025. Impressive! Once again, it holds the top position with a significant lead over the second-place finisher.

While the vast majority of buyers are upgrading from previous α7 series cameras, there are also quite a few switching from other manufacturers. Sony’s new model boasts specifications that are far too high to be called a standard model, and its AF performance, in particular, consistently leads the way in evolution. The extensive lens lineup is also one of the reasons for the switch. And, of course, there’s the abundant supply. Anyone who regularly checks this ranking will understand just how strong a benefit it is to be able to get one whenever you want. In addition, we’re seeing a noticeable number of purchases from overseas customers in stores. Sony cameras released in Japan only have Japanese menus and cannot display other languages, but many people are still purchasing them knowing this. Perhaps the price is so attractive that they don’t mind a few difficulties. There’s absolutely no sign of its momentum slowing down. It will be interesting to see how far this winning streak will continue.

Sony cameras dominate the rankings, with the α6700 at 9th place and the α7C II at 10th. The α6700 has now been in the rankings for four consecutive months since January 2026.
There are many possible reasons for this, including the resurgence in popularity of Sony cameras following the release of the α7V, the effects of ongoing cashback campaigns, and significant price reductions. However, in a Sony company where full-frame sensors are the mainstream, the resurgence in popularity of APS-C size sensor cameras is welcome news. Let’s hope it stays in the rankings.

Conversely, the α7C II has dropped from 4th place last time. It seems to have plummeted quite a bit. We had analyzed that its good cost performance would make it popular again in contrast to the high price of the new α7V, but what do you think…? A cashback campaign is currently underway, but looking at the results of the subsequent used camera rankings, it seems that, like the α7IV, the trend has shifted to purchasing used cameras.
