In a nutshell the Sony FE 28-70 mm f/2 GM test showed that you get here an outstanding 2/50 standard lens along with three very good, momentarily even excellent 2/28, 2/35, and 2/70 primes in just one instrument.

Pros:

  • solid and weather-resistant barrel,
  • sensational image quality in the frame centre, especially at the 50 mm focal length,
  • very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C/DX sensor,
  • good image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • negligible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
  • moderate lateral chromatic aberration,
  • lack of any noticeable problems with spherical aberration,
  • slight distortion on the APS-C sensor,
  • low astigmatism,
  • silent, quick, and accurate autofocus,
  • low focus breathing,
  • unique parameters.

Cons:

  • high vignetting on full frame but only by f/2.0
