Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G: B&H Photo / Amazon / Adorama

Lens tips published its full review of the Sigma 20mm f/2 DG DN | Contemporary, which you can read in full here. You might want to get the Sony 20mm f/1.8 G instead if you prefer a lens with fewer compromises though.

The Sigma C 20 mm f/2 DG DN is a very decent lens which has just one problem: a very strong direct rival. We think here about the Sony FE 20 mm f/1.8G. It’s true the Sigma is cheaper than the Sony by about $200 and now costs around $700 but I think many people will decide to buy the brand name Sony lens as it is faster and optically better.

Pros:

  • solid, weather-sealed mechanical construction,
  • good image quality in the frame centre,
  • sensible image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor,
  • decent image quality on the edge of full frame,
  • negligible lateral chromatic aberration,
  • excellent astigmatism correction,
  • moderate vignetting on the APS-C sensor,
  • very good performance against bright light,
  • sensible work of autofocus.

Cons:

  • monstrous vignetting on full frame,
  • distinct distortion of moustache variety.
