Sony Officially Warns Of Laser Damage

It’s pretty common knowledge that focused light sources like lasers can damage your sensor along with shooting intense light sources like the Sun with a telephoto lens, but Sony has now put out an official statement in relation to lasers:

Can the camera image sensor be damaged by laser?
Do not directly expose the Lens to beams such as laser beams. This may cause damage to the image sensor and cause the camera to malfunction.

Note: In either outdoor or indoor environment when there is a laser display, tendency of direct or indirect (laser beam bounce from reflective object) damage to the camera CMOS Sensor is still very high. – Sony

I hope manufactures are able to overcome these limitations in the future because lasers can look really cool in photos, but it’s probably not the best idea to risk thousands of dollars of equipment just to get a shot unless you’re being very well compensated for the high risk.
