Vlogging DPRTV: Sony ZV1 vs Panasonic G100 vs iPhoneXR

DPRTV is doing a barebones Sony ZV1 vs Panasonic G100 vs Smart Phones comparison with no accessories involved to see how they compare.

Audio Quality

  1. iPhone XR – Does a good job focusing on your audio
  2. SonyZV1 – nice starting kit out of the box
  3. Panasonic G100 – tinny-sounding

Video Quality

  1. SonyZV1 – ND filter built-in and Slog and a nice bright lens for low light
  2. Panasonic G100 – Nice video features and interchangeable, but not out of the box. Great at 1080p but not really for 4k due to crop. Can use vlog.
  3. iPhone XR – only one that can do 4k60p and does strange things to skin cones.

Autofocus

  1. Sony ZV1 – Sony’s excellent real-time AF system that you can trust and one-touch depth of field selector and product AF feature
  2. iPhone XR – Small sensor has a lot of stuff in focus by design so most things are in focus
  3. Panasonic G100 – New firmware helped with AF a lot and the kit lens gives you a pretty deep depth of field

Lenses

  1. Sony ZV1 – 24mm – 70mm equivalent that is fast and provides a shallow depth of field
  2. Panasonic G100 – Good compact lens that is 24-64mm equivalent with slow aperture, but you can use any m43 lens but they aren’t in the box
  3. iPhone XR – 32mm equivalent and no option to do an optical zoom

Stabilization

  1. iPhone XR – nice frame without a super tight crop and the files look smother than the Sony
  2. Sony ZV1 – less of a crop but far more usable
  3. Panasonic G100 – lots of crop when stabilizing if you’re shooting 4k

Overall

  1. Sony ZV1 – gives you creative control over the iPhone which is why it is on top
  2. iPhone XR
  3. Panasonic G100
