DPRTV: Sony a6600 First Impressions – Just an Evolution and Not a Revolution

DPRTV did a first impressions video for the a6600 and it brings up many of the Sony a6600’s shortcomings. The a6600 is an impressive value, but Sony could have done a lot better.

Pro

  • The new grip to fit the Z Battery feels great
  • Z Batteries
  • 11 fps
  • Real-Time Tracking AF
  • The camera is weather-sealed and so are the new lenses
  • Full flip screen

Con

  • The larger grip should have a front dial
  • Would be great to have an AF joystick on the back
  • One card slot
  • Not UHS-II so the buffer is slow to empty
  • The EVF is only decent and X-T3 far surpasses it
  • No on-camera flash
  • Old sensor make electronic shutter unusable and video isn’t great
  • Should have the 26MP sensor that the X-T3 uses
  • Weather sealing could be better
  • Panorama mode missing for no good reason
  • Realtime AF in video only works by touching the LCD
  • Very much like an a6500, but with Z battery and Real-time AF

IBIS and Real-Time AF are the only two features that the a6600 has above the Fujifilm X-T3.
