DXO: Sony a7III vs Nikon Z6

Sony is the standard bearer that everyone is chasing in the mirrorless market and it looks like the Nikon Z6 is a solid competitor, but maybe a little too later. Sony has some firmware updates coming that will really put the Sony a7III out front and they will likely release a Sony a7IV before Nikon can follow up with something better.

“Even though it performs exceptionally well in our tests, the Z 6 is still only slightly ahead of the sensor in the 2014 Nikon D750. Nevertheless, while we can’t gauge the impact of its 273 on-chip phase-detection points, it also performs at a similarly high level to its closest rival, the Sony A7 III, sharing many similarities in performance (albeit with some subtle differences).” – DXO Mark

I have to give Nikon some credit they did a pretty good job with their mirrorless full frame, but they should have had two storage slots and they should have gone with a lens lineup that matches Canon’s approach. It’s all about the glass and if they came out the gate with some great professional glass they might have really disrupted the market, but they didn’t and Sony is still going strong.
