Sigma is moving into Sony E-Mount in a big way and Cinima5D got a unique look inside their factory with Sigma’s CEO Kazuto Yamaki. It’s interesting to note that they still use a lot of older equipment because it’s more efficient and helps train new employees because it’s far too easy to get wrapped up in the technological side of lens production. Being too far removed from production can eventually become a problem and it’s good to see that Sigma is embracing old and new ways going forward. It certainly lends itself to the definition of Sigma, peoples knowledge or wisdom, because he is ensuring skills continue to be passed down instead of lost.
They also seem to have a very nice work environment unlike other facilities, which is typical in Japanese production and helps add to their end product quality. Their use of blue is interesting too and they could pay homage to their founder by incorporating it into their lenses somewhere in the future.
