Competitor PDR: Canon EOS R5 Mark II – Competitive, But Not Impressive

Photons to Photos published its photographic dynamic range results for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and the camera compares well to the Nikon Z7II, Sony a7IV, and Sony a7RV, but ultimately doesn’t impress. Canon really should find a company that can make a sensor that surpasses what Sony can produce. You can view and manipulate the above chart here.

Sigma 10-24mm F4 DG and 9-18mm F2.8 DC Patents Found

Sigma patents for a Sigma 10-24mm f/4 DG and Sigma 9-18mm f/2.8 DC were found. You can find the patents below:

overview

  • [Publication number] P2024104911
  • [Release date] 2024-08-06
  • [Name of invention] Wide-angle lens system
  • [Application date] 2023-01-25
  • [Applicant]
    [Identification number] 000131326
[Name or company name] Sigma Corporation
  • 2. Background Art
In recent years, with the increasing number of pixels in digital cameras and the like, there has been a demand for strict correction of various aberrations in the optical systems used.
  • [0003]
On the other hand, due to the miniaturization of digital cameras and video cameras and the trend to reduce the number of staff required in conjunction with the simplification of video production, there is a growing demand for lenses to be smaller and lighter than before.
  • [0004]
However, in the optical systems having wide angles of view that have been proposed in the past, a large-diameter concave lens is often placed on the object side to correct off-axis aberrations such as distortion and field curvature, making it difficult to achieve both compactness and correction of various aberrations.
  • [0009] An
object of the present invention is to provide a wide-angle lens system that is relatively small yet suppresses various aberrations including distortion and curvature of field by optimizing the refractive index of the lens closest to the object.
