Macro Work With the Sony a7R II

Camera Store TV released a pretty good video explaining macro photography for beginners. In the video Chris Niccolls primarily utilizes the Sony a7R II and Sony FE 90mm f/2.8-22 Macro G OSS to photograph spiders, bees, and flowers. This video is a good starting point for anyone looking to try macro photography in the future.

Sony’s Warning Against Third-Party Firmware Hacks

Sony Japan released a statement that any uncertified third party software loaded onto your camera from non-sony websites makes it “outside of the object of repair and warranty.”   (Google translation):

Part of the Web site, the Internet bulletin board, etc., has been tested and confirmed that the software tool to rewrite the body software specifications of Sony digital single-lens camera α and digital still camera Cyber-shot has been around. These software tools are not intended to have been officially issued by the Company, please note that operation can not be guaranteed.

Introducing The TECHART PRO

I received the new TECHART PRO a few days ago and so far I am impressed. This will be my first review on Sony Addict and I hope to make it a rolling one as I gain access to additional M glass. If there’s anything you would like me to prioritize (for example a lens) please leave it in the comments or contact me directly. Tonight I will be shooting another Burlesque Show (some photos NSFW) for fun which might be challenging. The 50mm f/1.4 Leica Summilux is by far my favorite lens to use on my Leica M240, but sometimes it can be difficult to focus in low light. It is my hope that the TECHART PRO and Sony a7II offer a superior experience when shooting under poor lighting conditions. I am really looking forward to putting this combination through it’s paces and trying additional glass like the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.2 II Aspherical in the future.

It is Summer time and if you’re planing a diving trip, now is a good time to pick up an underwater housing for your camera. If you’re interested in how well the Sony a6300 performs underwater Backscatter has a detailed review of its performance. The camera has a lot of pros like great video quality at 4k, Sharp images and excellent low light performance, which are the same as above water. Yet when it comes to underwater performance there are things users should be aware of like the need for a color filter to do underwater manual white balance.
