16 Differences Between The Sony a7C and a7III

16 Differences Between The Sony a7C and a7III

  1. Form Factor – slightly narrower than the a7III and shorter thanks to the EVF moving which is also great for smaller gimbals
  2. Weight – about 140g lighter than the a7III
  3. Control layout – more ergonomic with fewer buttons better laid out
  4. Mode Dial – improved with 3 custom memory modes and movie mode is moved
  5. EVF – Same resolution, but smaller magnification on the a7C
  6. Flip screen – a7C screen can be used as a selfy screen
  7. Video Recording Limits – a7C has not limit to recording time
  8. Video Eye Tracking AF – tracks eyes in Video on the a7C, but the a7III can not
  9. Eye-tracking AF when monitoring via HDMI – a7C doesn’t lose the ability to track eyes when recoding externally
  10. Tweaked color science – a7C has better color science so no more magenta shadows
  11. Post Stabilization with Gyro Metadata – a7C records gyro data for post stabilization
  12. Shutter – sounds and feels different, cant disable electronic first curtain shutter on a7C, Max shutter speed of a7C is 1/4000 vs 1/8000 on the a7III
  13. NTSC/PAL switching  – don’t need to reformat cards to switch
  14. Card Slot – a7C only has one card slot and it’s on the left
  15. Port Covers – on the a7C there are doors covering ports instead of flaps
  16. Price – a7C is $200 less than a7III, but you can find used a7III and deals on the a7III

The Sony a7C is an upgrade over the a7III. One more thing the a7C is a clicky shutter and the a7III is a squishy type.

Freefly Wave High-Speed Camera Announced

Today Freefly announced the Wave, which is a high-speed camera that can film up to 9259 FPS with its low dynamic range S35 sensor. The S35 sensor captures 10-11 stops with an aspect ratio of 4:3 and a pixel size of 5.5μm x 5.5μm and a native resolution of 4096 x 3072.

Since the default ISO is 250 the camera will require a lot of light when it is capturing RAW video. The RAW video is compressed at 5:1 to 6:1 and is recorded to a M.2 NVMe SSD drive, which can be a little expensive.

The camera uses E-mount by default, but there are no electronic connections between the camera and lens so it is designed for mechanical lenses. Further, the lens mount can be swapped out, but there are no other options at this time. Maybe we will see M-Mount and more in the future.

You can preorder the camera from Freefly’s store now, but the volume is extremely limited.

DPRTV: Sony LA-EA 5 Review

The Sony LA-EA 5 is a bit of a nitch product, but if you do not have Sony/Minolta A-Mount glass already you can get new and used A-mount lenses at a pretty decent price point still. It looks like the adapter works quite well from the video above, but mainly for photography and if you need a mechanical screw drive the Sony a7RIV and Sony a6600 are the only cameras currently supporting mechanical screw drive.

New 1VY501 Leak Might Be Sony FX6

Nokishita spotted a new camera the 1VY501 passing the FCC certification that they believe might be the WW638397. This could also be the new high-end camera that we leaked a few weeks ago considering the naming convention is close to the a7S which was 1VY001, but Nokisita believes it is the FX6, since Shanghai Suoguang is involved and Bluetooth is not installed.

Sony’s digital camera “1VY501” has passed FCC certification today (α7S III is 1VY001). Equipped with Wi-Fi (11a / b / g / n / ac). Probably the same model as WW638397 registered in China the other day because the wireless specifications are the same. Since Shanghai Suoguang is involved and Bluetooth is not installed, there is a possibility of a video camera such as FX6
