Megadap Sony E Lens to Nikon Z-Mount Autofocus Adapter Announced

Megadap released its E-mount to Z-mount AF adapter and it could be a game-changer for Nikon if they ever decide to release an attractive body. Sony has been on a roll for a few years now and something like this could help Nikon to catch up if Sony slacks. You can get the Megadap Adapter from B&H Photo and Amazon. Read More »

Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD Brochure Leaked

The Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD brochure leaked and you can read the whole thing below. Nokishika found it and I linked the PDF below along with including JPG’s of the pages.

The 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD from Tamron is a versatile superzoom ideal for photographers who want an all-rounder that covers virtually any shooting situation. Characterized for its 16.6x zoom ratio and a minimum focus distance of only 5.9″, it brings the best of Tamron’s “all-in-one” philosophy to the Sony E audience at large. A fast and precise autofocus mechanism, Tamron’s VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor, provides it with some of the best performance in its class, and it’s aided by the proprietary Vibration Compensation system that supports stable photography even at ultra-telephoto focal lengths.

  • All-in-one zoom, engineered specifically for APS-C-format Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, provides a 27-450mm equivalent focal length range.
  • Tamron’s Vibration Compensation uses a free-floating element, controlled through two gyroscopic sensors to measure the horizontal and vertical vibrations and compensate accordingly, eliminating camera shake.
  • Two VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motors deliver impressively quiet, quick, and precise focusing performance to suit both stills and video applications. This focusing system offers a minimum focusing distance of 5.9′ when fully zoomed out, and a 1:2 maximum magnification ratio at the wide end of the zoom range.
  • A weather-sealed construction benefits this lens’ use in inclement conditions

Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD: It’s Big

The Tamron 35-150mm f/2-2.8 Di III VXD is a very interesting lens being an f/2 to f/2.8 zoom and I can’t wait to try one out, but it does look a little bulky. It will be interesting to see how it balances on a Sony body since they are pretty small compared to this lens.

Today Only: Save Up To 39% on Lexar Storage

Lexar cards are recommended by Fujifilm and the cards I use in my cameras. The Lexar Professional 2000x cards are great, but the 1667x and 1066x cards are also very good. Outside of the a9/A1, you can use most cards on sale without the card holding you back, but if you have an a9/A1 I highly recommend getting 2000x cards. you can find the full sale here on Amazon.

DPR: Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G, FE 40mm f/2.5 G, and FE 24mm f/2.8 G Review

Sony’s compact trio of lenses the Sony FE 50mm f/2.5 G, FE 40mm f/2.5 G, and FE 24mm f/2.8 G don’t get a lot of press but they are a very good value and DPR seems to agrees giving all three lenses scores in the high 80’s with the Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G getting a silver award. You can read the full review here or see some excerpts from the conclusion below:

Sony FE 24mm f/2.8 G
The 24mm F2.8G is tack sharp wide open and controls chromatic aberrations very well. Sharpness suffers a bit at the extremes of the image, and bokeh can appear slightly busy, but overall there’s a lot to like about this compact wide-angle.

Good: Landscapes, cityscapes, architecture, environmental portraits, low light photography, drone videographers
Bad: Travel photographers requiring a versatile focal length range, videography requiring extensive focus pulls that may suffer from focus breathing

Sony FE 40mm F2.5 G
The 40mm F2.5G is tack sharp wide open, with extreme edges sharpening up nicely at smaller apertures and nearly no lateral chromatic aberration. Unfortunately it suffers from textured bokeh and fringing due to longitudinal chromatic aberration. Focus breathing may be an issue for some videographers.

Good: Portrait and low light photographers, drone videographers
Bad: Travel photographers requiring a versatile focal length range, videography requiring extensive focus pulls that may suffer from focus breathing

Sony FE 50mm F2.5 G
The 50mm F2.5G is tack sharp wide open, with nearly zero distortion and lateral chromatic aberration.
